Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 356

Chapter 356

Chapter 356.

“Not looking too cheerful there, Mr. Brown. Did the business talks this morning not go as planned?” Alaric asked, his tone dripping with fake concern.

Every word was basically telling George to stick to business and quit daydreaming about anything else.

“Everything went smoothly, and Ophelia and I have another meeting this afternoon. Guess you’ll be left twiddling your thumbs again, Mr. Caldwell,” George fired back, not holding back at all.

He was already annoyed, and Alaric just had to rub salt in the wound. ‘Seriously, does he think I’m just here to be bullied?’ George fumed.

“Doesn’t bother me one bit. I could wait for Ophelia all day and never get tired of it,” Alaric said, acting all high and mighty, like he was silently telling George he wasn’t even in the running.

George’s face turned even darker. ‘Since when was Alaric such a pro at pushing my buttons?’ he thought, unable to hide his growing annoyance.

Finally, the elevator stopped and everyone shuffled out.

Ella secretly patted her chest in relief. ‘Thank god we made it out. Seriously, that tension was killing me, she thought.

‘When the bosses start sparring, us small fries better keep our heads down, Ella thought to herself.

Ella quietly scooted closer to Ophelia, feeling way safer just sticking by her side.

Ophelia gave her a confused look. “Did something happen?”

“Boss, you’re seriously amazing,” Ella said, eyes shining with admiration. “Not even a hint of stress on your face back there.”

“Huh? What do you mean?” Ophelia asked, looking genuinely confused.

Ella blinked, dropping her voice to a whisper. “You seriously didn’t feel that silent showdown between Mr. Caldwell and Mr. Brown in the elevator? The tension was so thick I could barely breathe. I was terrified I’d get dragged into their drama.”

“What are you talking about?” Ophelia couldn’t help but glance over at Alaric and George, wondering what Ella meant. The two, who’d just been locked in a silent battle of glares, instantly put on their poker faces, cool as cucumbers, acting like nothing had ever happened.

“It’s nothing,” Ophelia replied, not picking up on anything weird. She just frowned, a little confused, and asked, “Are you sure you’re okay, Ella?”

Ella’s lips twitched as she muttered, “I think I’m scarred for life.”

‘Oh my god, what did I just witness? Was I even supposed to see that?’ Ella thought, completely stunned.

‘Those two could win Oscars for how well they fake it. If my heart wasn’t still racing, I’d think I imagined the whole thing, Ella thought, still shaken.

‘But seriously, how does Boss stay so unfazed through all this?’ Ella wondered, totally baffled.

“Boss, you seriously didn’t notice anything off in the elevator just now?” Ella asked, her tone tentative.

“Uh, what was up with the elevator?” Ophelia replied, her gaze flickering away. She couldn’t answer Ella. She’d totally zoned out back there.
