Chapter 357
Chapter 357
“Mmmph…” Ophelia slapped her hand over Ella’s mouth and hissed, “Shut up.”
Honestly, Ophelia had no clue what kind of crazy stuff Ella might say if she didn’t cut her off.
One look at Ella’s face and Ophelia knew her mind was in the gutter again.
Ella blinked, signaling she understood.
She’d just suddenly thought of that possibility and was so shocked she couldn’t control her reaction.
Once Ella finally settled down, Ophelia released her grip, but not before giving her a sharp look that clearly said, ‘Don’t even think about it.’
“What are you two talking about?” Alaric suddenly spoke up. Ophelia glanced up at him and saw that teasing look in his eyes. Instantly, she felt a wave of nervous guilt.
‘Did he just catch what Ella said?’ Ophelia panicked for a second.
Even if it was just Ella’s wild imagination, it would be so embarrassing if Alaric actually heard any of it.
“Nothing,” Ophelia blurted out, dragging Ella off before he could ask anything else.
Alaric couldn’t help but smile, his eyes soft with indulgence.
‘Guess the girl’s just too shy to say it, he mused.
Meanwhile, after dragging Ella away, Ophelia shot her a warning look. “Seriously, there’s nothing going on between us, so stop making things up, and don’t go shouting about it.”
Ophelia could handle a bit of gossip, but Ella just had to announce it to the whole world. It was mortifying.
“Alright, alright, I get it. You and Mr. Caldwell are totally innocent,” Ella said, nodding like she believed it, but her tone and expression made it obvious she didn’t buy it for a second.
Ophelia just rolled her eyes and ignored her, not even bothering to respond.
Ella snickered to herself, even more convinced that there was definitely something going on between Ophelia and Alaric.
When they arrived at the private room, Ophelia took a seat, and Ella immediately plopped down right next to her.
Alaric, without missing a beat, slid into the spot on Ophelia’s other side.
“Ms. Prescott, could you ask the waiter to bring us a pot of hot tea?” George said, sounding completely at ease.
“Oh, sure,” Ella replied automatically, getting up to call the waiter.
When Ella got back, George had totally claimed her seat while she was gone.
Ella rolled her eyes, thinking, ‘Yeah right, you don’t care about the tea at all. You just wanted my seat. Real smooth, George.’
But George was definitely not someone she wanted to cross, so she just had to suck it up and pick a new spot.
“Oh, and I asked the waiter. The food will be here soon,” Ella casually announced, trying to play it cool like nothing had happened.
But clearly, no one was paying her any attention.
Alaric and George sat on either side of Ophelia, shooting daggers at each other across the table. Their rivalry so obvious, you could practically see the sparks flying.
“Mr. Brown, when you’re in Dunhollow, you really ought to play by our rules. After all, you’re just the boss of the Brown family from Clearwater City. Don’t go thinking you run the place just because you’re here,” Alaric said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
George knew full well Alaric didn’t want him sitting there, so he just snorted and fired back, “Since when did Mr. Caldwell start worrying about Ms. Prescott’s seat in someone else’s company?”
‘He’s just salty I took Ella’s spot, not his,’ George thought.
“You’ve got it wrong, Mr. Brown. This isn’t just any company. It’s Ophelia’s,” Alaric shot back with a smirk, looking for all the world like he owned the place.
George’s face clouded over, and he couldn’t help but remind him with a bite, “Mr. Caldwell, you said it yourself. This is Maplewood Capital, not the Caldwell Group.”

George scoffed inwardly, ‘It’s not like Ophelia’s company delongs to him anyway.’
