Chapter 358
Chapter 358
‘What is he even talking about? Why would I want his company anyway?’ Ophelia thought.
“So you don’t like the Caldwell Group, huh? Then what do you want?” Alaric looked at Ophelia with such earnestness, like he’d move heaven and earth just to make her happy.
Ophelia let out a weary sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Honestly? I don’t like anything.”
“Is that so…” Alaric mused for a moment, then suddenly leaned in, his eyes practically sparkling with hope. “Well, Ophelia, do you like me? Because if you do, I’ll just gift myself to you.”
Ella nearly choked, her face going beet red as she waved her hands like crazy. “Sorry, I just remembered. I should go check if we need anything else.”
With that, she shot up and made a quick escape from the private room.
Sure, Ella loved a good front row seat to the drama, but this was way too much. She wasn’t about to get caught in the blast zone. Especially with George looking so pissed, she didn’t even dare meet his eyes.
With Ella gone, the private room was so quiet it was almost eerie.
Ophelia looked at Alaric, opened her mouth to say something, but for the first time ever, she was completely speechless.
‘Does this guy even hear himself right now?’ Ophelia thought, totally floored
George’s gaze was icy, his eyes boring into Alaric like he wanted to skewer him on the spot.
George knew exactly what kind of guy Alaric was-dominant, ruthless, and never one to play fair.
But seeing him act like this just for Ophelia wasn’t just a shock. It actually made George feel a real sense of threat.
If he really wanted to compete, he’d have to pull out some tricks of his own…
Alaric gently poured Ophelia a glass of water and set it in front of her, his tone warm and sincere. “If you don’t say anything, I’ll just take it as you saying yes.”
“Shut up,” Ophelia shot back. Agree? In your dreams, you idiot,’ she grumbled to herself.
“Mr. Caldwell, do you seriously think you’re God’s gift or something?” George sneered, his face stone cold. “Doesn’t look like Ophelia’s buying it, though.”.
“Jealous much, Mr. Brown?” Alaric shot back, his gaze icy as ever. Then he turned to Ophelia, his whole vibe softening. “. Ophelia, let’s just ignore him and dig in.”
Ophelia’s lips twitched as she shot Alaric a deadpan glare, her voice low and exasperated: “Enough already. Can you not be so childish?”
With that, she turned to George and called out, “Let’s eat.”
“Alright,” George replied with a gentle smile, his whole vibe suddenly relaxed and friendly.
It was a complete turnaround from the tense, competitive energy he’d just had with Alaric. Alaric’s gaze darkened for a moment, and just like that, the vibe in the room turned icy cold.
Just then, the sudden ring of a phone shattered the silence.
Alaric picked up, his voice low and commanding. “Speak.”
“Alright, got it. Come pick me up,” he said, then hung up without another word.
“Ophelia, I’ve got something to take care of. I’ll come pick you up after work,” Alaric said softly.
“No worries, I’ll just head straight to the hospital after work. You can swing by once you’re done,” Ophelia nodded, reminding him not to stress about it.
“Alright,” Alaric lingered for a beat before finally heading out of the restaurant.
As Alaric walked away, George’s lips curled into a barely noticeable smirk.
“Boss, the extra dishes are here!” Ella called out as she pushed the door open, only to freeze when she saw the room. “Wait, Mr. Caldwell’s already gone?”
“He had something to take care of,” Ophelia said, waving Ella over. “Come on, let’s eat. We still need to wrap up the rest of the details back at the office.”
