Chapter 359
Chapter 359
“Uh…” Ophelia bit her lip, skirting around the question. “It’s nothing.”
Then she quickly changed the subject. “Try this. It’s a Dunhollow specialty. You probably don’t have it in Clearwater City.”
Seeing Ophelia dodge the topic, George’s heart sank for a moment. ‘So she really does care about Alaric, huh?’ he thought.
His eyes narrowed slightly in thought as he gave her a gentle smile. “Ophelia, do you remember those days in Clearwater City when I was getting treatment?”
“Of course,” Ophelia replied, raising an eyebrow, clearly wondering why he’d brought it up out of the blue.
“Those are days I’ll never forget,” George said, his gaze burning with emotion as he looked at her. “If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Who would’ve thought that someone told they only had three months left would end up surviving, all thanks to a kid like her?
“You really don’t have to keep holding onto this,” Ophelia said with a casual smile. “It just happened that I was able to treat Your illness.”
‘If I hadn’t been able to help, well, there wouldn’t have been anything I could do about it.’ Ophelia thought.
George smiled and gently shook his head. He didn’t argue with Ophelia, but he clearly still held onto it.
After all, to him, she was the one who gave him a second chance at life.
“Boss, Mr. Brown, try this. It’s a new dish,” Ella said, stepping in at just the right moment to break the tension and invite them to eat.
Ophelia shot Ella a meaningful look, and Ella just grinned back, looking pretty pleased with herself.
After lunch, the group left the restaurant and headed back to the office.
“Boss, Mr. Brown’s attitude toward you is definitely not ordinary,” Ella whispered, grinning as she tried to gossip with Ophelia.
“Huh?” Ophelia tilted her head, giving Ella a confused look.
Ella gave a helpless look and whispered, “You saved his life, you know. I bet Mr. Brown wants to devote himself to you or something.”
Ophelia instinctively glanced at George to make sure he wasn’t listening, then cut/Ella off in a low voice, “Stop it. You can joke around all you want, but George is just our business partner.”
“Fine,” Ella muttered, shrugging with a pout. ‘Guess someone’s bound to be disappointed, she thought.
Ophelia’s eyes narrowed, lost in thought as Ella’s words lingered in her mind.
‘That can’t be it… right?’ she wondered.
She hadn’t really spent much time with George. Last time, she was just his doctor; now, they’re just business partners.
‘Ella’s probably just overthinking things, Ophelia reassured herself.
Still, even with that in mind, Ophelia couldn’t help but act a bit more polite and reserved around George during their next meeting.
George could tell she was keeping her distance, and his eyes darkened slightly.
He didn’t know the reason, but he could clearly feel her putting up walls between them.
He looked up at Ophelia. She was so calm, almost too calm. That kind of composure made him feel weirdly stifled, like the air around him got heavy.
Meanwhile, Alaric’s car was heading toward the Caldwell Group/
Ryan’s eyes were clouded with worry as he reported, “Mr. Caldwell, things took a turn out of nowhere. The new product is set to launch on schedule, but our spokesperson bailed and we can’t find a decent replacement in time.
