Chapter 360
Chapter 360
*****
At Caldwell Group, Alaric glanced at the clock. It was already eight o’clock. He couldn’t help but rub his temples.
“Mr. Caldwell, maybe you should take a break. You haven’t had dinner yet,” Ryan reminded him quietly, sounding worried.
“Alright,” Alaric replied.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
He had just agreed when someone knocked on the door.
“Come in,” Alaric said, glancing toward the doorway.
The door swung open, and when Alaric saw Ophelia walk in, his eyes widened in surprise for a split second. Then a warm smile spread across his face. “Ophelia, what brings you here?”
“It’s so late and you still haven’t gone back to the hospital, so I came to check on you,” Ophelia said, a hint of concern in her voice as she walked in. Seeing Alaric about to eat, she frowned. “Is work really giving you that much trouble?”
She was surprised he hadn’t even had dinner yet.
“I’m alright,” Alaric replied, gently pulling Ophelia to sit beside him. “Come, have a seat.”
After Ophelia sat down, Alaric leaned his head on her shoulder and spoke softly, “It’s not really that bad. There’s just a lot going on, and everything hit at once, so I got held up.”
Ophelia instinctively wanted to move away, but hearing how tired he sounded, she just sighed inwardly and let him rest Ragainst her, feeling a bit helpless.
Ophelia frowned slightly, her voice sounding wary. “Did all these problems really pop up so suddenly?”
Sure, things changed fast in business, but this whole situation felt kind of suspicious to her.
Alaric noticed she was catching on, and a faint, meaningful smile appeared on his lips. “Yeah, it’s quite the coincidence, isn’ t it?”
At first, he’d just wanted to get everything under control as quickly as possible. But now that the dust had settled, he couldn’t help but think, ‘Isn’t this all a bit too much of a coincidence?’
“Got anyone in mind?” Ophelia couldn’t help but ask, curiosity written all over her face.
Sure, using tricks in business is nothing new, but Alaric never hesitated to strike back. Unless someone was really powerful, nobody would risk messing with him. It’s basically asking for trouble.
Alaric chuckled softly, raising an eyebrow at Ophelia. “If I told you I knew who it was, would you want to hear it?”
Ophelia tilted her head, giving Alaric a puzzled look. “What do you mean?”
A cold glint flashed in Alaric’s eyes as he spoke in a low, serious voice, “If someone really set this up, the only person I can think of is George.”
“Him?” Ophelia frowned, her tone instinctive. “Do you two have some kind of grudge?”
She wasn’t sure, but honestly, George definitely had the means to pull something like this off.
Alaric lowered his gaze to meet her clear eyes, a shadow flickering in his own. With a heavy, meaningful tone, he said, “Yeah..
