Chapter 375
Chapter 375
She had never seen Alaric wear such a gentle expression before, let alone show this much affection in public.
The way Alaric was so attentive to Ophelia made her heart race with anxiety.
But now, she didn’t even have an excuse to approach Alaric. He had publicly exposed the misunderstanding she’d tried to create, and all she could feel was her cheeks burning with humiliation and a stifling frustration in her chest.
‘Why is it that I try so hard to get close to him, to stand by his side, but Alaric won’t even spare me a glance, and yet he’s so attentive to Ophelia?’ she thought bitterly.
She clenched her jaw in secret, a glint of resentment flashing in Bianca’s eyes.
Her gaze grew cold as she looked at Ophelia. ‘What’s so great about Ophelia anyway?’ Bianca thought bitterly.
‘Look at her, dressed like she just rolled out of bed. She doesn’t have a shred of that heiress aura. Seriously, how is she
even
worthy of Alaric?’ Bianca scoffed to herself.
“Ms. Rowle, since you’re not Mr. Caldwell’s date, how about being mine tonight?” a chubby guy asked Bianca with a cheeky grin.
Bianca’s brows furrowed instantly, her eyes narrowing in distaste.
But for the sake of her reputation, she couldn’t blow up in public. She forced a polite smile and replied, “Sorry, sir, I’m not Mr. Caldwell’s date. I’m here tonight as Caldwell Group’s new launch ambassador, so I’m afraid I can’t be your date.”
“I see,” the chubby guy said, a little deflated, sneaking a glance at Alaric. He was clearly disappointed, but he didn’t dare stir up trouble with Alaric directly.
His eyes darted between Alaric, Ophelia, and Bianca, then he walked off with a knowing look.
Ophelia’s gaze flickered briefly, ‘Bianca really is sharp. She knows exactly how to save her own reputation, Ophelia thought.
Alaric had made it clear she wasn’t his date, but Bianca still managed to play up her role as Caldwell Group’s spokesperson, so no one would dare look down on her.
Ophelia smirked with amusement. ‘No wonder she’s a superstar. She always knows how to flip the script in her favor, no matter what gets thrown at her, she mused.
But honestly, Ophelia couldn’t care less. As long as Bianca behaved herself and didn’t try to cause trouble, Ophelia had no intention of wasting her energy on her.
She glanced back at the crowd and picked up the conversation about the earlier project.
Watching Ophelia chat effortlessly with everyone else, completely leaving her out in the cold, Bianca gritted her teeth, struggling to maintain her composure. ‘Ophelia really treats me like I don’t even exist, she thought bitterly.
“Hmph, Ophelia, let’s see how long your pride lasts,” Bianca muttered darkly, her eyes cold and sinister as she quietly slipped away from the crowd.
With Alaric in the mix, everything just fell into place. The project talks went smoother than ever.
Whenever Ophelia brought up an idea, Alaric would instantly back her up, no questions asked.
Everyone else just fell in line before they even had time to think it over. If Alaric was on board, nobody dared to object.
Besides, Ophelia was a real powerhouse, and everyone was genuinely excited about the chance to work with her.
‘Finally, a moment of peace, Ophelia thought as she found a chance to retreat to the end of the hallway for a breather.
To her surprise, Alaric showed up as well, a teasing smile on his lips. “Hey, Ophelia, are you out here all by yourself… waiting for me?”
