Chapter 380
Chapter 380
As soon as she said it, Ella’s face went pale. “Boss, you mean someone set you up on purpose?”
Thinking about it, it was terrifying. Step by step, they were trying to nail Boss to the wall of shame.
“Track down that reporter, the waiter downstairs, and that drunk guy. I want to know exactly who they’ve been dealing with tonight,” Ophelia said, her gaze cold and commanding.
Ella gritted her teeth, determination flashing in her eyes. “Understood.”
After that, Ella couldn’t help but ask Ophelia, “Boss, how did you manage to get out of there?”
‘I mean, seriously, Boss couldn’t have just vanished into thin air, right?’ Ella thought, her curiosity getting the better of her.
“When I realized things were off, I headed straight for the balcony. Then, when I saw they were about to search it, I climbed over to the neighboring one,” Ophelia said, her voice cool and unfazed. Something this minor couldn’t possibly trouble her.
It was while she was out on the balcony, listening to their conversations and reactions, that Ophelia began to suspect she was being targeted.
“Man, that was close,” Ella breathed out, unable to hide her relief.
‘Talk about a close call. If things had gone south, we’d be in a real mess, Ella thought, her heart still racing.
After swapping out their clothes, Ophelia and Ella slipped back into the event, blending right in with the crowd.
The venue was still lively and loud, as if the whole lounge fiasco had never even happened.
Ophelia’s gaze swept across the lively crowd, glasses clinking and laughter echoing through the hall. For just a moment, her eyes paused on Bianca, her pupils narrowing ever so slightly.
But just as quickly, Ophelia’s expression returned to normal, and she strode calmly into the throng.
“Ophelia, where did you go?” Alaric walked over, fixing her with a brooding stare.
Noticing she’d changed outfits, his expression darkened even more. “Why did you change clothes? Did something happen?”
He’d only fallen a few steps behind Ophelia, but when he turned around, she was already gone.
‘Was she really just gone to change clothes? Why would she need to do that?’ Alaric wondered, suspicion flickering in his mind.
“No big deal. I just spilled something on it, so I changed,” Ophelia said, shrugging it off like it was nothing, totally unfazed.
Alaric gave her a look, like he wanted to say something but stopped himself.
She clearly didn’t want to talk about it, but he could tell something was definitely up.
Alaric’s brows drew together, his tone low and a little urgent. “Want to get out of here early?”
The banquet was still in full swing, but all he wanted was to get her away from this mess.
“Sure,” Ophelia replied, scanning the room. Truth be told, she was more than ready to bail herself.
Ophelia exchanged a glance with Ella, and Ella nodded in understanding.
With just that look, they were on the same page.
Before long, Ophelia and Alaric left the venue together.
Standing outside the hotel, the night breeze brushed past Ophelia, and it finally dawned on her. ‘Wait, how did I end up leaving with Alaric?’ Ophelia thought.
Suddenly, the image of their kiss at the end of the hallway popped into her head, clear as day.
Her face went red, burning with heat.
“I-I should go,” Ophelia said awkwardly, then quickly made her way to the car, not daring to look back.
Alaric instinctively followed after her, his voice soft. “We’re both heading to the hospital anyway. Want to go together?” “No, I’m going home,” Ophelia suddenly stopped and looked up at Alaric, her tone unwavering. “You’re stable now, so you don’t need me at the hospital anymore. Starting today, I’m going home. If anything happens, just… call the doctor.” She almost said ‘call me,’ but caught herself and changed it to ‘doctor’ at the last second.
