Chapter 381
Chapter 381
The Rowle family.
When Ophelia walked in, Victoria couldn’t help but glance behind her. “You came back alone, Ophelia?”
“Who else would I come back with?” Ophelia blinked, a little lost. ‘Did I forget something?’ she thought.
“What about Alaric?” Victoria motioned for Ophelia to sit and asked softly, “He didn’t come with you?”
Ophelia rubbed her forehead, sounding a bit exasperated. “Mom, he’s fine now. I came back because he doesn’t need me hovering over him anymore.
“He still has to stay at the hospital, and even when he’s healed, he’ll be busy with his own stuff. Why would he show up at home with me right now?”
“Oh, that’s not what I meant,” Victoria said with a faint smile. “I just heard you two have been hanging out a lot lately, so I kind of assumed you’d come back together.”
She just thought the two of them should be together, so she blurted it out without thinking.
Ophelia looked confused. “Who told you that, Mom?”
‘Who’s even paying that much attention to me, and would actually tell Mom about it?’ Ophelia wondered.
“Uh, well…” Victoria glanced away, trying to sound casual. “Just something I heard, that’s all.”
But it wasn’t just some rumor. After Alaric took Ophelia from Rowle Manor last time, Victoria actually asked Samuel to dig into what was going on.
That was why she was so up to date on the two of them lately.
Ophelia caught on immediately and just shook her head quietly to herself.
“Mom, it’s not like that between me and him…” Ophelia started to say, but the words caught in her throat.
She couldn’t help but think back to the dinner party. Her relationship with Alaric… she couldn’t just deny it anymore.
She knew that even though her mind had gone blank and she hadn’t reacted, the truth was she hadn’t pushed him away at all.
Biting her lip, Ophelia forced herself to change the subject. “Mom, I haven’t had dinner yet. Is there anything to eat at home?”
“It’s too late for dinner now,” Victoria said as she got up and headed to the kitchen. “I’ll make you some noodles.”
Ophelia beamed, her eyes squinting with joy. “Thanks, Mom.”
“Just wait a bit,” Victoria said, her heart melting as her daughter was being so sweet.
As she started making the noodles, it suddenly hit Victoria: Ophelia never finished what she was about to say.
She just couldn’t help but shake her head, smiling indulgently. “That girl.”
In the living room, Ophelia flopped onto the couch with a sigh of relief.
But she couldn’t help but remember the way Alaric had kissed her. Her heart skipped a beat, and she could feel her cheeks heating up.
Even when she finally crawled into bed, she still felt all flustered inside.
She’d never thought she and Alaric would get to this point. But thinking back on everything that had happened since they met, it all just… sort of happened, one thing after another, until here they were.
The next day, the sun was shining bright.
