Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 382

Chapter 382

“Knock, knock, knock.”

After a moment, Ophelia glanced toward the door, her voice cold and commanding. “Come in.”

As the door opened and she saw George, her expression darkened briefly. She arched an eyebrow. “Something up?”

“Just something personal,” George said, dropping a folder onto Ophelia’s desk.

“Personal?” Ophelia frowned, confused. ‘Why make a personal thing so formal?’ she wondered.

George tilted his chin up, acting all mysterious. “Go on, open it.”

Ophelia opened the folder, and as soon as she saw the contents her expression hardened, her gaze turning icy.

“Isn’t this the reporter from last night?” Ella exclaimed, her voice rising in surprise.

“That’s right, he’s already been turned over to the police,” George replied calmly, arching an eyebrow at Ophelia. “Here’s his background, along with some clues about last night’s incident. The police are still investigating the rest.”

Ophelia set the folder down and gave George a knowing look. “How did you find out about what happened last night?”

“I was on my way to the restroom and just happened to see you I was going to step in, but then I caught you scaling the balcony instead…” George said, a faint smile playing on his lips as he remembered the way she pulled it off, so bold and fearless.

By then, the reporters were already inside. He knew going through the door was pointless, so he tried to find another way in, maybe through a different room, and that’s when he caught sight of her in action.

At first, he was stunned, but then again, with her, nothing really surprises him anymore.

After that, she left Ella to dig into things, and he had his own team working from another angle. Luckily, he was a step ahead. Otherwise, that reporter would’ve already skipped town.

“Thanks,” Ophelia said, taking the folder. Her eyes softened as she thanked him.

‘Yeah, it was almost too much of a coincidence, Ophelia thought, ‘but honestly, he had no reason to make something like that up.’

“No need to thank me. It’s my honor to help you,” George replied his gaze growing more serious. There was something unspoken in his eyes, like he wanted to say more.

Ophelia’s expression faltered for a moment, and she averted her eyes, refusing to meet George’s gaze.

Seeing her pull away, a bittersweet feeling washed over George as he dropped his gaze.

“George, seriously, thank you so much for your help. If it weren’t for you, I have no idea how long it would’ve taken to get to the bottom of this,” Ella said, her eyes shining with gratitude. “How about we grab lunch together? It’s the least I can do to

thank you.”

After all, he’d gone out of his way to help, so she figured she ought to show some appreciation.

George instinctively glanced at Ophelia, waiting to see what she thought.

“Ella, you take care of the restaurant,” Ophelia said, making the call. It was only fair to thank him for his help.

“On it,” Ella replied, then slipped out of the office.

An awkward silence settled between them, neither quite sure what to say next.
