Chapter 385
These were all dishes Ophelia loved, but with both of them ordening at the same time, they were practically throwing daggers at each other with their eyes.
Ophelia frowned, shot both of them a look, and, a bit exasperated, took the menu. “I’ll order.”
Soon, she had picked out dishes that suited everyone’s taste.
Ella let out a quiet sigh of relief, thinking maybe she should just step outside for a while. Otherwise, there was no way she’d survive this meal in peace.
After a while, all the dishes were served.
“Let’s eat,” Ophelia said, then turned to George with a polite smile. “Thanks again for the files. Consider this meal my way of saying thank you.”
“No need to thank me. It was nothing,” George replied, reaching over to serve Ophelia some sweet and sour fish. “You love this, so have some more.”
But just as he did, Alaric was also serving her sweet and sour fish.
The two men locked eyes, their gazes darkening, and then both went for the crispy pork at the same time.
Sure enough, Ophelia’s plate ended up with two extra pieces of crispy pork.
And for every dish she liked, her plate got double portions. Soon it was stacked up like a little mountain.
“Ophelia, eat up,” Alaric said, his tone intentionally intimate, making a point to show off their closeness to George. George just looked away, unfazed, as if Alaric’s little show didn’t bother him one bit.
Once he set his sights on someone, he wasn’t about to let go that easily.
He couldn’t help but regret not coming to Dunhollow sooner. If he had, he and Ophelia would’ve had more time together, and maybe they’d be even closer now.
Noticing the weird vibe between the two guys, Ophelia let out a helpless sigh. “Come on, let’s just eat.”
‘No wonder Ella didn’t come back. Even I’m starting to feel awkward, Ophelia thought.
“Ophelia, have some more,” Alaric said, his eyes smiling as he reached over to serve her more food.
George noticed what Alaric was up to and reached out as well.
Ophelia’s eyes darkened, her voice dry. “If you’re not hungry, feel free to head out.”
‘Can’t we just eat? They look like they’re not even interested in the food, Ophelia thought.
Both men paused mid-motion, exchanging another shadowy glare.
But neither of them tried to serve her any more food. They just focused on their own plates and started eating.
Ophelia’s tone was still gentle, but they could tell she was barely keeping her cool. Neither wanted to push her any further, so they just played along to keep the peace.
“Mr. Caldwell, you should eat up. You’ve got to get back to Caldwell Group soon,” George said, giving Alaric a frosty glare. He sounded polite enough, but underneath, he was still throwing shade, just like the rest of us.
They both acted all gentle around Ophelia, but the second she looked away, their eyes locked and you could practically see the sparks fly.
Ophelia was exhausted by the end of the meal. She felt like a firefighter, constantly putting out the invisible flames between
the two men.
She rubbed her temples, feeling helpless. ‘From now on, I’m definitely keeping these two apart. Seriously, I hope they never end up in the same room again, she thought.
“It’s getting late. I need to get back to work, and you both should get going too,” Ophelia said, making it clear it was time for them to leave as soon as the meal ended.
The undercurrents between those two were giving her a headache.
But business rivalry… well, that wasn’t something she could interfere with. Let them handle it themselves.
That thought flashed through her mind, and Ophelia instinctively glanced at Alaric. From his expression, she couldn’t tell if things at Caldwell Group were resolved yet.
Successfully unlocked!
Alaric caught her look, raised an eyebrow, and gave her a teasing smile. “Ophelia, are you already missing me? I can stay and keep you company if you want.”
As expected, Ophelia shot him a dramatic eye-roll, her annoyance written all over her face. “Mr. Caldwell, seriously, just go already.”
