Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 399

Chapter 399

Ophelia suddenly realized what was going on. She slowly lowered her head, her mouth twisting awkwardly.

So she’d actually fallen asleep on Alaric’s lap, and her arm had ended up way too close to somewhere she definitely

shouldn’t be.

Ophelia jolted awake, heart racing. She shot up like she’d touched a live wire and backed away several steps.

‘Oh god, this is so awkward. I didn’t touch somewhere I shouldnt have in my sleep, did I?’ Ophelia thought, her cheeks burning.

‘I… didn’t, right? Please tell me I didn’t, she tried to reassure herself, but she wasn’t so sure.

Ophelia’s cheeks turned bright red, like she’d just done something totally embarrassing. She couldn’t even meet Alaric’s

eyes.

“Ophelia, what’s up?” Alaric asked, not getting why she was freaking out. He stood up, wanting to check on her.

But the moment he got up, he let out a low groan and just stood there, not moving an inch.

Ophelia’s voice tightened with worry as she glanced at him. “What’s wrong?”

‘Maybe he’s still not fully recovered, and he pulled an all-nighter with me. Is he feeling sick?’ she thought, anxiety bubbling

“My leg’s numb,” Alaric said, gritting his teeth as he tried to sound normal.

Ophelia frowned, confused. “How did your leg get numb?”

“Well, you were lying on it for ages, and I didn’t dare move, so of course it went numb,” Alaric said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

But the more Ophelia listened, the more awkward she felt. ‘Why does that sound so weird?’ she thought.

‘I mean, I was lying on it, sure… but something about this just feels kind of off, Ophelia thought, her cheeks burning.

“No worries, I’ll just move around a bit and it’ll be fine,” Alaric said, totally unfazed. He just figured a little stretching would fix everything.

Outside the door, Ella Prescott was covering her mouth, trying not to laugh. ‘Wow, these two are really letting loose, Ella thought, amused.

‘And Boss was actually lying on Mr. Caldwell?’ she snickered to herself.

‘Damn, that’s wild!’ Ella couldn’t help but think.

Just as Ella was enjoying the drama, the lab door suddenly swung open.

Ella froze, her grin still plastered on her face.

Ophelia could tell exactly what Ella was thinking. She just facepalmed, totally speechless.

Seeing that sly, mischievous grin on Ella’s face, Ophelia realized she’d gotten the wrong idea, like, way off.

When Ella caught Ophelia’s serious look, she immediately wiped the grin off her face and said, “Boss.”

‘No way I’m letting Boss know I overheard that. She might just have me taken out, Ella thought, a chill running down her spine.

Ophelia shot Ella a gloomy, almost threatening look. “You’re up early, aren’t you?”

“Yeah, guess I am a bit early,” Ella said, scratching her head with a sheepish smile. Then she turned away and mumbled, “If I’ d known, I would’ve come later.”

“What did you just say?” Ophelia’s eyes narrowed, her voice laced with danger.

Ella instantly straightened up, putting on her most serious face. I was just asking, Boss, any news on the results? Did you figure out what kind of poison was used on the old man from the Rowle family?”

Ophelia’s expression grew more serious as she slowly nodded.

She’d stayed up all night, and just as dawn was breaking, she finally figured it out.

“That kind of stubborn poison must be something special. Is there any way to cure it?” Ella asked, worry in her voice.

Ophelia shook her head, her face grim. “No lead yel

But now that she’d identified the poison, all tha
