Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 400

Chapter 400

“Are you serious?” Ophelia frowned, her eyes full of disapproval

She’d already thought it was weird when he said he didn’t need to go back, and now, looks like she was right after all. “You’re not even close to being fully recovered! How can you just leave the hospital?” Ophelia said, her annoyance and worry clear in her voice.

Alaric reached out and brushed a stray hair off her forehead, speaking gently. “Honestly, things have been so hectic lately, I barely even go back to the hospital. Might as well just get discharged. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself.”

“And what if something happens?” Ophelia pressed, still not buying it.

“What’s there to be scared of? I’ve got you, haven’t I?” Alaric grinned. ‘As long as she’s around, I’ll be fine. Plus, this way I get to stick close to her. No way am I staying cooped up in that hospital by myself.’

The way he was looking at her, so trusting, so intense, made Ophelia just facepalm. “I can’t keep an eye on you every second, you know.”

‘There’s always a chance I’ll miss something. What if something goes wrong?’ she worried, biting her lip.

“Don’t worry about it,” Alaric said, flashing a confident grin. “As long as I’m with you, I’ll be fine.”

Basically, he was saying, ‘No need to babysit me. I’ll just stick to you like glue.’

Her lips twitched and she rolled her eyes, at a loss for words. ‘Is he just reckless with his own health, or does he trust me way too much?’ Ophelia wondered.

“Let’s go, we should check on your grandfather,” Alaric said, grabbing her hand and heading out of the office with her.

Ella watched the two walk off, one eyebrow raised. ‘Dang, are they leveling up their relationship, or is Boss just so focused on the old man that she’s totally missing the chemistry here?’ she thought to herself.

After leaving New City Tower, Ophelia and Alaric headed back to Rowle Manor.

As soon as they walked in, they bumped into Bianca Rowle. Her eyes went wide for a second when she spotted them walking in together.

“Ophelia, you and Mr. Caldwell came home together so early. Did something happen?” Bianca asked, trying to hide the worry in her eyes.

“It’s nothing, just here to check on Grandpa,” Ophelia replied. She’d kept the poisoning a secret before, so there was no way

she was telling Bianca now.

“Oh, Grandpa’s doing okay, he just hasn’t woken up yet. Miles’s keeping an eye on him,” Bianca explained, then glanced at Alaric. “Mr. Caldwell, you’re here to see Grandpa too? I was just about to head over. Let’s go together.”

“Didn’t you just check on him?” Ophelia gave Bianca a sidelong glance, one eyebrow raised.

Bianca’s expression froze for a moment before she managed an awkward grin. “I just asked Mom about him, and I was about to head over now.”

Since Ophelia and Alaric had just arrived, they hadn’t seen Bianca go in yet.

Now that Alaric was here, Bianca definitely wasn’t going to miss her shot to cozy up to him.

Decision made, Bianca invited them, “Let’s go together.”

Ophelia’s gaze cooled as she said, “I’m not in a hurry. I just got back from work and haven’t even had breakfast yet. I’ll go after I eat.”

With that, Ophelia headed straight for the dining room.

‘As if I can’t see what Bianca’s up to. Yeah, right,’ Ophelia scoffed inwardly.

Besides, if Bianca comes along, how am I supposed to talk to Miles about the poison? No way that’s happening.
