Chapter 409
Chapter 409
As long as there was someone pulling the strings, no matter how deep they hid, there was always a trail left behind.
“Make sure you’ve got someone watching out for Grandpa’s safety at the Manor,” Alaric reminded her again.
“Got it,” Ophelia replied, and then reminded him, “You should get some sleep too. And don’t forget to take your meds on time, okay?”
“Whatever you say, Ophelia, I’m all yours,” Alaric said with playful pride in his voice, and anyone could hear just how happy he was right now.
Ophelia rolled her eyes and complained, “If you actually listened to me, I wouldn’t have to worry about you all the time.”
‘He’s honestly the most impossible patient I’ve ever dealt with, and he still dares to call himself obedient?’ Ophelia thought, shaking her head.
“So you think I’m still not listening enough? Guess I’ll have to try even harder,” Alaric replied, sounding all innocent and serious, like he really meant it.
“Alright, suit yourself,” Ophelia said, and hung up.
But after she hung up, she couldn’t help but smile.

On the other end of the phone, Alaric listened to the silence after she hung up, and raised his eyebrows.
“Was she… acting cute with me just now?” he murmured, replaying her tone in his mind, and couldn’t help but smile.
‘She really is different with me now, Alaric thought happily.
The next day.
The sunlight poured in, bathing everything in a golden glow.
Ophelia woke up in good spirits and with a healthy glow on her face as she made her way downstairs.
“Hey, you’re up,” Victoria said, relieved as she saw Ophelia looking refreshed. “Looks like you actually got some decent sleep.”
“Yeah, I slept pretty well,” Ophelia replied with a nod. “I might not make it home tonight. I probably gotta stay late at the
office.”
“Alright, just don’t forget to take care of yourself,” Victoria reminded her with concern. Even though she was worried, she knew Ophelia had to handle things her own way.
“Ophelia, are you going by yourself? Alaric’s gonna keep you company, right?” Owen asked, sounding expectant.
Ophelia couldn’t help but laugh, ruffling Owen’s hair, “Kids shouldn’t worry about things like that. Hurry up and eat.”
Owen leaned in, whispering like he was sharing top-secret intel, I know Alaric’s probably gonna be my brother-in-law soon.”
Young as he was, Owen saw through everything.
Ophelia froze for a second, her eyes widened. She opened her mouth, but didn’t know what to say.
“Eat up, or you’ll be late for school,” Oliver said, his voice calm yet commanding.
Owen shrank back and whispered to Ophelia, “Man, when Oliver gets mad, it’s kinda scary. Looks like Alaric’s not really his favorite. If he wants to marry you, he needs to work even harder!
“You little troublemaker,” Ophelia muttered, completely speechless. ‘Seriously, how does he know all this at his age?’ she
wondered.
“Not hungry?” Oliver spoke up again with a sense of unmistakable warning in his voice.
