Chapter 410
Ophelia knew Dylan was helping her out, and she wasn’t about to turn down his help.
After breakfast, they left the Rowle house one after another.
As she drove, Ophelia couldn’t help thinking about Alaric, who had said Oliver didn’t like him.
Alaric really was impressive, so she couldn’t figure out why her brother seemed so cold towards him. It surprised her too.
They were both power players in the business world. Maybe they were just never meant to be good friends.
Beep!
An urgent honk made Ophelia subconsciously look over.
She found George standing by the side of the road, waving at her.
She pulled over, rolled down the window, and asked, “Is everything okay?”
“My car’s acting up,” George said with a grin. “I saw you driving by. Are you on your way to the office?” “Yeah, I’m just heading there now,” Ophelia said, tilting her head with an easy smile. “Want a lift?”
George hesitated and said, “Are you sure it’s not a hassle?”
Ophelia smiled and said, “Not at all.”
George got into the car.
As they drove off, Ophelia glanced over and asked, “You seem so busy these days. Did something happen?”
“Well, if you’d rather not talk about it, you can just pretend I didn’t ask,” she added with a smile.
“It’s not something I can’t share,” George replied, shooting her a look like he was debating how much to say. “Just some issues at work that haven’t been sorted out yet.”
He was the one who picked a fight with Alaric, and now he just had to deal with the consequences.
But Alaric went all out. If the Brown family didn’t have such solid backing, George would’ve packed up and headed back to Clearwater City in defeat.
‘If Ophelia found out about this, I’d totally embarrassed, George Thought.
Ophelia raised her eyebrows and looked at George, catching his hesitation. She could tell he wasn’t keeping some big secret or anything, so she didn’t push it. “If you ever run into trouble, you can always call me,” she offered.
George said with a grateful smile, “Thanks for being willing to help.”
‘But seriously, how could I actually ask her for help? That’d be way too humiliating. Not to mention Alaric would probably think even less of me, George thought.
“We’re partners, aren’t we? If I can help, of course I will,” Ophelia sounded like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“But what if I want more than just a business partner?” George suddenly asked, his voice low and a little nervous.
He didn’t want them to just be business partners. He wanted something more.
“What do you mean?” Ophelia was caught off guard and asked in confusion.
“I mean, could we be something more? Like…” But before George could finish his sentence, Ophelia’s phone suddenly rang.
“Give me a sec. I need to take the call,” Ophelia said, tapping her Bluetooth earpiece. “Hello?”
“I’m on my way to the office right now,” she said.
“You’re at my office?” she asked, a bit surprised.
“I ran into something, but I’ll be there soon,” she replied.
Ophelia hung up.
“Was that Alaric?” George asked, frowning slightly as he guessed.
He hadn’t caught any of the conversation, but something about Ophelia’s expression just gave him the impression that it was Alaric on the other end of the phone.
There was definitely something different about the way Ophelia acted when it came to Alaric, something George couldn’t quite put into words.
“Yeah,” Ophelia nodded, not bothering to hide it
