Chapter 420
Meanwhile, Alaric took Ophelia to a lounge so she could get some rest.
“What about you?” Ophelia asked casually when she saw Alaric had no intention of taking a rest.
Alaric said with a teasing smile, “Are you inviting me, Ophelia?”
“Don’t flatter yourself,” Ophelia shot back, rolling her eyes at him. She yanked the blanket over herself and turned her back to him, making it clear she was done with him.
Alaric leaned down with a chuckle, kissed her cheek gently and said, “Get some sleep, sweetheart. I’ve got some things to take care of, but I’ll be back soon to keep you company.”
“Go handle your business, and don’t forget to get some rest yourself,” Ophelia added with a hint of sarcasm, “And make sure you find another lounge to sleep in. Don’t even think about crashing here.”
Seriously, she wasn’t inviting him. He really needed to stop overthinking it.
Alaric gave her a doting smile, tucked her in, and quietly left the room. Ophelia let out a long sigh of relief, rolled over, and stared up at the ceiling.
She was a little tired, but didn’t feel like sleeping yet.
Everything had happened so suddenly today, and she still hadn’t had a chance to really think about who could’ve tampered with the poison in her grandpa’s system.
Both the butler and Oliver had arranged for some men to keep an eye on everyone at the Rowle Manor. How did anyone even get the chance to make a move?
“I need to find out who did this, and fast. Maybe I can follow the trail and uncover more,” Ophelia’s eyes turned cold as she analyzed the situation.
Her uncle Asher was probably the one pulling the strings, but there was no way he’d be dumb enough to get his hands dirty himself.
‘Who at the Rowle Manor would Asher actually trust to do his dirty work?’ Ophelia wondered.
As she kept thinking, she slowly drifted off to sleep.
She didn’t even notice when Alaric was back.
The next day.
She woke up and found herself in Alaric’s arms.
She sighed and gently pushed him away, “Time to get up.” She honestly had no idea when he’d come back last night.
Alaric pulled her closer, and said in a lazy and low voice, “Let’s sleep a bit more.”
“You get some more sleep. I’m going to check on Grandpa,” Ophelia said, guessing Alaric probably hadn’t slept much. But she really needed to see how her grandpa was doing.
She still didn’t have a cure for the poison, but she’d given him some medicine to slow it down. Now she needed to check on his condition.
Alaric was reluctant to let her go. But when he heard she was going to see her grandpa, he finally released her.
He got out of bed with her and said, “I’m going with you.”
“You should get some more rest. I can handle it myself,” Ophelia said with concern in her soft eyes.
She guessed that he’d slipped out last night to handle Caldwell Group business. He’d spent all day helping her with her grandpa, and now he had to juggle company stuff at night. He was really burning the candle at both ends.
“I’m fine,” Alaric said. He went to the bathroom, freshening up. After a quick wash and change, he came out looking ready to go.
He clearly wasn’t going to take no for an answer. Ophelia got herself ready and headed out with him.
They headed to the ICU together.
When they arrived, they saw Bianca sitting there, storing off intace She looked like she was watching her grandpa, but honestly, her mind seemed miles away.
