Chapter 421
“No,” Bianca shot back subconsciouslly, glancing up at Alaric.
But then it hit her. She looked like a total wreck, especially with Alaric standing right there. No way did she want him seeing her like this.
She whipped around, turning her back to him, her voice shaky, “Well, since you guys are here, I’m outta here.”
She didn’t even need a mirror to know how rough she looked. Alaric had just caught her at her worst, and she wished she could just crawl under a rock and die.
Watching her make a run for it, Ophelia raised her eyebrows and said, “Wow, she bolted. Did you freak her out or something?” “She’s just embarrassed, that’s all,” Alaric shrugged, looking totally innocent. “I didn’t scare her. I just spoke the truth.”
Besides, he hadn’t said anything out of line. She was the one who snapped at Ophelia first.
“Maybe,” Ophelia said, rolling her eyes. She didn’t really buy it, but she wasn’t about to get into it with Alaric over Bianca.
If Bianca wanted to leave, let her. She was just getting in the way anyway.
With that, Ophelia changed into her sterile gown and walked into the ICU.
Watching her work inside, Alaric turned cold and steely.
“Any progress?” Alaric asked in a low voice. Ryan hurried over and lowered his voice, “Last night, Asher sent a man to the airport. As soon as that man left the country, we took control of him.”
“Good,” Alaric replied with cold eyes. “Get to the bottom of this and bring him back as soon as possible.”
“I will,” Ryan said, pausing, “There’s been some developments over at the Rowle Manor. It looks like they found something about Asher.”
“Leak the news that we’ve apprehended that man,” Alaric instructed, his eyes gloomy and calculating.
Maybe if both sides put their clues together, they’d get to the truth much faster.
Ryan nodded and hurried away.
Alaric’s gaze shifted back to the ICU, watching Ophelia move around inside.
He’d do whatever it took to help her just so things would be a little easier for her.
For two days straight, Ophelia was glued to the hospital, keeping a close eye on her grandpa and working tirelessly to keep the poison in check.
Luckily, everything was going smoothly. Ophelia finally felt like she could breathe again.
When she stepped out of the ICU and took off her sterile gown, she looked a lot more relaxed.
Alaric gently wiped the sweat from her forehead and said softly Looks like things are going well.”
“Things are finally turning around. We’ve managed to buy Grandpa a little more time,” Ophelia said, feeling some weight off
her mind.
“There’s progress on Miles’s end too. I really think things are looking up,” Alaric paused when he saw someone coming their way.
Connor Blackwell was wheeling Sebastian Caldwell over, and both of them looked serious.
“How’s your grandpa holding up?” Sebastian asked, his concern obvious.
