Chapter 426
“Mom, that’s exactly what you heard,” Ophelia owned up to it without hesitation with no hint of arrogance or entitlement.
She sounded like it was nothing out of the ordinary, not even worth making a fuss over.
Soon, Ophelia’s credentials were brought over and given to the cops to check.
“They’re real,” the cops quickly confirmed.
Asher stared in disbelief and said, “No way, that can’t be real.”
Scarlett stumbled back, her voice shaking, “They’re certainly fake.”
“Yeah, they’re definitely fake! Elijah was covering for her just now, so the credentials must be fake,” Scarlett insisted, as if she’d finally spotted a loophole.
“Mrs. Rowle, the credentials are legitimate,” the cops repeated, making sure she heard every word.
But Scarlett just couldn’t take it. She kept yelling, almost losing it, “No way, they’re got to be fake! She couldn’t even get into a decent college before she came back to the Rowle family, and she’s only been here for a few months. How could she possibly know anything about medicine? How could she even have a license?”
To her, this whole thing was a big joke.
‘How could someone who couldn’t even get into a top university possibly master such advanced medical skills?’ Scarlett shook her head in disbelief.
“Aunt Scarlett, just because your horizons are limited doesn’t mean everyone else is,” Ophelia said, shrugging innocently.” Maybe I didn’t go to school just because I didn’t need to.”
The Dunhollow Hospital had invited her to be a research professor. Did she really need to study what was in the textbooks? “There’s no way you know anything about medicine. You’re so young!” Scarlett spat, her voice trembling with anger. “Even if that license is legit, you must’ve gotten it through some backdoor deal.”
Scarlett was dead set on thinking Ophelia couldn’t possibly be a real doctor, no matter what anyone else said.
“I can prove she knows her stuff,” There suddenly came a loud, commanding voice.
Then another voice, not as forceful but just as hard to ignore, added, “I can prove it too.”
Everyone turned and saw Connor wheeling Alaric over.
“Both of us owe our lives to Ophelia,” Alaric spoke up first, backing her up.
Connor puffed up with pride and said, “I’ve known Ophelia, the little miracle doctor, for years. I can vouch that she’s the miracle doctor who’s always stayed out of the spotlight.”
“What?!” Everyone gasped in shock.
Alaric’s words had stunned the crowd, but Connor’s announcement hit them like a bomb going off.
“No way, she’s really the miracle doctor?” someone blurted out.
“But she’s so young!” another person exclaimed.
“But if Connor and Alaric say it’s true, then it has to be,” someone else said.
Asher was totally in shock.
“How is this even possible? She’s really the miracle doctor?” Scarlett felt so dizzy that she could barely stand. Ophelia glanced at Scarlett with a hint of mockery and said, “Aunt Scarlett, is this result good enough for you?”
Scarlett saw Ophelia’s faint smile, and couldn’t help but feel a little scared. “Ophelia, I should’ve looked into this before making a fuss. I really didn’t think it through.”
Scarlett suddenly lost her nerve and blurted out an apology before she knew it.
‘Ophelia is actually the miracle doctor?’ Scarlett thought.
She couldn’t believe it. But with Connor and Alaric backing Ophelia, nobody in this city would ever dare question it. Yet, at this moment, she felt strangely calm. It was like Ophelia had orchestrated everything from the start, just waiting for her to take the bait. Scarlett felt like a puppet on Ophelia’s stage acting out the role Ophelia had written for her.
“An apology isn’t enough this time,” Ophelia said, her gaze sharp as she turned to the police. “She stirred up trouble at the hospital, made a false report, and tried to frame me. Don’t I deserve some real justice?”
“We’ll take her in for questioning and make sure this is handled properly. You’ll get an answer soon,” a policeman assured
her.
