Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 427

Chapter 427

Chapter 427

Scarlett felt her heart sinking and she slumped to the floor, completely defeated.

‘It’s all over. I can’t believe I was tricked into tasting my own medicine, Scarlett thought, her world crumbling around her.

“Take her away,” Elijah said and turned to the crowd. “Alright, that’s enough. Everyone, move along.”

The nurses started shooing the onlookers away while two cops escorted Scarlett out.

“Wait, there’s one more thing the police need to look into,” Alaric suddenly appeared, fixing his cold eyes on Asher.

Asher’s heart trembled, and he instinctively looked away.

He was starting to panic. He could tell from Alaric’s look that he was in for it.

“What is it?” the cops asked, following Alaric’s gaze.

“We’ve got the case file, and the suspect’s already been taken to the police station,” Ryan said, handing over a file to the

cops.

Alaric added, “Take him with you as well. There is no point wasting more time coming back for him.”

Asher’s lips twitched as he forced himself to speak up, “Mr. Caldwell, isn’t that a little harsh?”

“Well, here’s the thing,” Alaric said calmly, giving Asher a sidelong glance. “The man you tried to get rid of, remember? We caught him and he spilled everything.”

“He’s making things up! That’s not true!” Asher blurted out, desperate to defend himself.

Ophelia snorted, raising her eyebrows, and said, “How funny, Uncle Asher. You don’t even know what he said yet. How can you be so sure he’s lying?”

Asher’s face turned pale and he gritted his teeth, “And what exactly did he say, then?”

“Oh, he said you were the one pulling the strings behind Grandpa’s accident,” Alaric replied with a shrug.

Asher felt speechless.

‘What’s the difference?’ Asher thought.

‘Are they just screwing with me?’ he fumed in frustration.

“I swear, I don’t know anything about this! He wanted to leave, so I let him go. How was I supposed to know what he was up to? If he’s talking now, he’s just trying to drag me down with him so he can get off easy. You can’t just believe whatever he says!” Asher stammered, trying hard to sound calm but clearly desperate.

“It’s not for us to say, Uncle Asher. Better let the cops figure it out,” Ophelia replied with a shrug, arms crossed.

Asher’s face darkened, and he said in a harsh and defensive tone, “So what, you are trying to set me up now?”
