Chapter 428
“Uncle Asher, that’s not quite right, is it?” Ophelia raised her eyebrows, her tone laced with playful sarcasm. “Wasn’t it you who got Aunt Scarlett arrested?”
‘He thinks I don’t know, but Aunt Scarlett was just Asher’s pawn she thought.
‘When Uncle Asher let his wife make a scene at the hospital, he should’ve realized I wouldn’t let her off so easily. But he still allowed it, all for that slim chance he thought he had. And when his wife got arrested, he was so damn calm about it.’ she knew Asher well.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Asher’s face went pale as he stared at Ophelia, feeling a chill down his spine.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that Ophelia had already seen through him, or maybe she had gotten her hands on some info he didn’t know about yet.
“Uncle Asher, don’t get so worked up. If Aunt Scarlett doesn’t care, I’m not going to make a fuss about it either,” Ophelia smirked. “You should be worrying about your own problems right now.”
“Don’t even think about pinning this on me. I didn’t do anything, Asher shot back, glaring at Ophelia.
Then it hit him. Even if Ophelia had found something, she didn’t have any proof. She was just trying to rattle him, hoping he’ d slip up and give himself away.
“Whether you did it or not, let’s wait for the investigation to speak,” There came a cold, sharp voice.
Everyone turned to see Oliver striding over with cold eyes.
“Oliver,” Ophelia said, raising her eyebrows slightly, a knowing glint in her eyes.
‘Oliver’s got some results, Ophelia thought.
“Yeah,” Oliver nodded at Ophelia, and then turned to Asher. “Uncle Asher, Ben turned himself in.”
“What did you just say?” Asher raised his voice in shock.
“Looks like you’re pretty surprised, Uncle Asher,” Oliver said, raising his eyebrows, his eyes icy cold.
“Why would Ben turn himself in? What did he do?” Asher’s heart was pounding, but he forced himself to calm down.
“I think you know exactly what’s going on, Uncle Asher,” Oliver said, giving Asher a meaningful look. “But if you really don’t know, then you don’t have any right to ask about it.”
“You…” Asher’s face darkened.
Now he was completely cornered. If he admitted he knew, he’d be exposed. But if he denied it, he had no clue what Ben might’ve confessed.
‘Damn it, why the hell did Ben turn himself in?’ Asher thought, panicked.
“Asher, just go cooperate with the investigation,” Adrian said, his face pale. He still had no clue what exactly was going on, but if Alaric, Oliver, and Ophelia were all pointing fingers at Asher, then Asher must’ve done something wrong.
“Spare me the crocodile tears,” Asher snapped, shooting Adriana glare. “Drop the act. You were the mastermind behind all this, weren’t you?”
‘How typical! He’s always scheming. No wonder our father favored him and even his daughter got special treatment,’ Asher thought bitterly.
