Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 431

Chapter 431

George’s eyes darkened for a split second, but he quickly recovered and handed the gift box to Ophelia. He said, “This is for your grandfather. Since I brought it, I can’t just take it back with me.”

Ophelia instinctively reached out to take the box, and without her even realizing it, her hand slipped free from Alaric’s.

Alaric’s mood soured even more as he shot George a glare. ‘Seriously, this guy is such an eyesore. Everything he does just gets on my nerves, he thought.

“Well, looks like it’s lunchtime for me too. Since we bumped into each other, how about we all eat together?” George said, giving Alaric a pointed look and raising his eyebrows. “I’m sure you won’t object, Mr. Caldwell, right?”

“If I said I did mind, would you leave?” Alaric replied, sounding clearly annoyed.

Ophelia found her temples throbbing. She was honestly speechless.

“Thank you for visiting my grandfather. Once he wakes up, I’ll call you,” Ophelia said with a slightly awkward smile.

‘Honestly, with the way things are, the three of us eating together is a bad idea. I’ll probably end up with a poor appetite from all the awkwardness, Ophelia thought.

“Mr. Brown, I guess we’ll have lunch next time,” Alaric said, with a hint of smugness in his voice.

Ophelia shot him a warning glare.

Alaric could only look away, feeling a bit awkward, but secretly pretty pleased. After all, Ophelia had picked him.

“George, how about I treat you to dinner some other time? I’ve just got a lot going on lately,” Ophelia explained, polite but clearly keeping things formal.

George felt a bitter ache. Her courtesy only made him feel more distant, like she was drawing a line between them on

purpose.

“Alright, let’s catch up next time,” George said, forcing a polite smile.

He’d noticed she hadn’t been at the office lately. When he found out she’d been staying at the hospital to take care of her grandfather, he decided to visit her grandfather and to see her.

Ophelia didn’t catch the look on his face and agreed without hesitation, “Okay, next time, I’ll give you a call.”

“I’ll be waiting,” George replied meaningfully.

He’d wait for her call and he’d keep waiting for the day she could finally see how much she meant to him.

“Alright,” Ophelia said, giving the gift box a little shake. “I’ll give the gift to my grandpa and let him know you stopped by.”

“Okay. You said we’re friends, remember?” George replied, his smile carrying a hint of something deeper.

Ophelia said with a nod, “Right. Friends.”

“Let’s go,” Alaric interjected, unable to stand watching Ophelia and George get all buddy-buddy anymore.

As the two of them walked away, George’s eyes darkened.
