Chapter 432

Chapter 432

“Let’s hurry up. I need to head back after lunch,” Ophelia said, not really thinking much about it. She was already plotting ways to make her experiments go faster so she could whip up an antidote ASAP.

“Alright,” Alaric replied, a faint smirk on his lips. Honestly, he was crossing his fingers she would get away from George.

“Why are you grinning like that?” Ophelia asked, tilting her head He was acting so weird.

“I’m just happy,” Alaric said, arching his brow smugly. He just felt like smiling.

Ophelia shot him a look, clearly unimpressed, and said, “Have you even been sleeping lately? You’re acting super weird.”

She felt that something was up with him.

“I’ve been sleeping just fine,” Alaric leaned in, whispering in Ophelia’s ear. “Honestly, I dream about you all the time, so I sleep great.”

Ophelia instantly flushed at his words, and she gave him a mock glare. She said, “Can you not mess around for once?”

“I am being serious,” Alaric pouted a little. “I’m telling the truth, Ophelia. You gotta believe me.”

He was acting all cute and intimate, and people walking by kept sneaking glances at them.

Ophelia felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment. She said, “Alright, that’s enough. Cut it out.”

‘Doesn’t he have any of that CEO pride?’ Ophelia thought, a little annoyed.

‘Seriously, he’s one of the most talked-about guys in Dunhollow and he just doesn’t care how people think of him?’ she grumbled inwardly.

Alaric raised an eyebrow, thinking, ‘Man, she’s getting shy so easily these days.’

Henry went to visit Asher at the police station with a lawyer.

“We’ll do everything we can to defend you and push for a lighter sentence,” Henry said, pausing, “But you have to cooperate. Leave nothing out, tell us every single detail.”

Asher shot him a scowl and said angrily, “What are you getting at?”

‘Henry wants me to take the fall for everything?’ Asher thought, his jaw tightening.

“You know you’re done for. If you’re taking me down with you, who’s going to get revenge for you?” Henry warned in a low voice. “And have you even thought about what will happen if you ever get out? How are you even going to live?”

“What about Bianca and Daphne?” Henry added. The moment Henry mentioned their names, Asher’s rage vanished.

He stared at Henry, eyes wide, like he was seeing Henry for the very first time.

After a moment, Asher suddenly laughed, “Henry, all these years I’ve been guarding against Miles. I never realized you were the one playing dumb and hiding your claws.”

He’d always thought Henry was in his corner, but it turned out Henry was the real snake lurking in the shadows all along.

He never really had such grand ambitions. If Henry hadn’t been egging him on all these years, he would never have ended up like this.

“Who would’ve thought all my scheming these years would turn out to be nothing but a joke,” Asher said, laughing so hard his eyes turned red before finally stopping. With a tone of resignation, he added, “Fine, I’ll take the blame for everything. Just promise me that Bianca and Daphne will always be well taken care of.”
