Chapter 434
Thanks to Alaric’s teasing, Ophelia found herself more relaxed, the weight on her heart finally lifting.
‘Let me fill up before I pull myself together and keep working. Grandpa is still waiting for me, she thought.
Alaric watched Ophelia restoring her liveliness with a soft, doting smile.
After breakfast, Ophelia left to head back to the lab.
“Go to the office. You don’t have to come see me after work. Just go home and get some rest,” Ophelia said, unable to hide her concern for Alaric.
Alaric raised an eyebrow at her, and then nodded lightly.
Ophelia felt satisfied when he agreed. ‘That’s more like it,’ she thought.
She really was worried that with how busy he was, spending so much time with her would just wear him out.
At this time, Alaric’s phone rang.
His expression turned serious as he answered, “I’m heading to the office now.”
“Did something happen at the company?” Ophelia blurted out, unable to hide her concern.
“There’s an emergency at the office. I need to go take care of it,” Alaric said, stepping closer and pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Don’t push yourself too hard. Once I’m done, I’ll come see you.”
Ophelia froze for a moment, and before she could react, Alaric raised his hand and ruffled her hair.
Ophelia shot him a mock-annoyed look, blushing as she urged, Hurry up and go.”
‘He’s getting more and more handsy, she thought.
Seeing her flustered face, Alaric smiled, his eyes full of affection
After Alaric left, Ophelia took a deep breath, pulled herself together, and got ready to dive back into her antidote research.
But in the back of her mind, she couldn’t help thinking. If she really couldn’t crack it, maybe she’d have to figure out what kind of deal she could strike with her uncle. There was no way she’d just stand by and watch her grandpa suffer.

Alaric came to the Caldwell Group.
Ryan hurried over, and said with a worried look, “There’s some trouble with our investment in Lokerland. If we don’t sort it out fast, the company’s finances could take a serious hit.”
If things weren’t so urgent, he wouldn’t have asked Mr. Caldwell to come in at this time.
“Have you figured out what’s going on?” Alaric asked as he sat down, his presence so intense that the atmosphere in the room grew tense.
“All we know is that the project’s been accused of copyright infringement. If that’s true, we’ll have no choice but to shut it down. But we’ve already invested a fortune. If we pull out now, the losses will be massive,” Ryan said, his face pale with helplessness and worry.
“Infringement?” Alaric narrowed his eyes as he drummed his fingers on the table.
He’d reviewed this project himself. ‘Could there really be an infringement?’ he wondered.
‘Either this was a trap from the start, or someone sabotaged it later on, he thought.
“Put the project on hold for now. Get someone on it and find out what’s really happening,” Alaric raised his eyes and gave Ryan an order.
Seeing how composed Alaric was, Ryan quickly caught on and couldn’t help but fume. “Who’s got the nerve to sabotage our project?”
“Just investigate and find out,” Alaric replied, completely unfazed.
Clearly, someone was targeting him, so he’d just have to deal with it.
Even if he had to take the fall, he’d make damn sure to uncover who was pulling the strings.
He wasn’t going to let anyone get away with scheming against him.
