Chapter 439
Mr. Gideon struggled to break free, but Ophelia cleverly twisted his wrist in a painful counter-move. The more he fought, the worse the pain got, until he was too scared to even twitch.
“Ow, ow! Easy, please!” Mr. Gideon gasped, cold sweat breaking but on his forehead from the terrible pain.
“Tie him up, and be careful. His hand is loaded with poison,” Ophelia called out to the specialists.
The specialists were still in shock from the chaos. But as soon as Ophelia spoke, they scrambled for some rope and had Mr. Gideon restrained.
After tossing Mr. Gideon into the corner, Ophelia turned to Claire who was frozen in shock. Her voice was icy as she said, ” Aunt Claire, Aunt Scarlett’s lonely in jail. Are you trying to go keep her company? You two are really tight, huh?”
“No, no, I swear I don’t know what’s going on! This has nothing to do with me. I didn’t do it!” Claire shook her head hard, insisting she had no idea what was happening.
Now that everything was out in the open, she knew she had to keep herself out of this mess, or she was doomed. Ophelia fixed Claire with a cold, mocking stare and said, “Aunt Claire, you were the one who brought him here. Now that things have gone south, you expect me to believe you had no idea what was going on? Do you really expect me to buy that?” ‘Seriously, does she think I’m an idiot? With all the evidence right here, and she still won’t admit it?’ Ophelia thought, narrowing her eyes.
“I swear, I had no idea! Your grandpa still hadn’t woken up. I heard this man knew a lot about poisons, so I figured I’d let him try. I never thought he’d actually try to hurt your grandpa!” Claire cried out, trying to prove her innocence.
She spun around and shot Mr. Gideon a furious glare, yelling, “Talk! Why did you do it? Who sent you?”
With his scheme exposed, Mr. Gideon knew he was done for. He just slumped his head, staying silent.
Whether he talked or not, it wouldn’t change a thing. All he could do was curse this girl with such sharp eyes. ‘How the hell did she spot the poison under my nails? This girl’s got eyes like a hawk, he thought, bitter and frustrated.
“Say something, will you?” Claire snapped, getting even louder in frustration.
Mr. Gideon still wouldn’t say a word, just tuning her out like he was already checked out of the whole mess.
“Aunt Claire, instead of wasting your breath, maybe you should start thinking about how you’re going to convince the police you’re innocent. If you can’t even fool me, what makes you think you can fool them?” Ophelia shot Claire a cold, piercing look.
‘Seriously, she still thinks she’s the victim? Give me a break, Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes secretly.
“Ophelia, you have to believe me! I swear I have no idea what’s going on. Why would I ever hurt your grandpa? There’s nothing in it for me!” Claire looked like she was about to cry, putting on her best act. “Ophelia, please, don’t pin this on me, you…”
“Save your breath, Aunt Claire. You’ll need it when the police start asking questions,” Ophelia said calmly, giving Claire a dismissive glance, completely unfazed.
Claire froze on the spot, unable to say a single word.
