Chapter 441
“You can stay if you want,” Ophelia said with a cold smile. “When Grandpa wakes up, he will tell you himself whether there’s
any
bad blood between him and that old man.”
‘Did they really think I’d buy their innocence just because that old man made up an excuse and took the fall?’ Ophelia thought to herself.
‘How can these two people so evil and clueless?’ she scoffed.
The room fell silent.
Henry and Claire hadn’t expected Ophelia to bring this up. They were left speechless, not even knowing how to argue back.
After a moment, Claire finally snapped out of it, her voice shaking with anger, “What are you saying? That antidote of yours is basically some sketchy black market stuff. What if your grandpa never wakes up after you use it?”
“I’m sure Grandpa will wake up. You can either wait here or get out,” Ophelia said, chin held high, looking like she had this in the bag.
Seeing Ophelia was dead set on using the antidote, Claire frowned. ‘No way! I can’t let Ophelia do this. What if she actually pulls it off?’ she thought in a panic.
The more she thought about it, the more scared she got. Finally Claire just threw caution to the wind and screamed, “I’m warning you. If you dare touch him, I’ll call the cops! Even if you’ve got a medical license, there’s no way they’d let you use some illegal drug on a patient!”
She still remembered how her sister-in-law got burned before. Sure, she was a genius doctor with all the right papers, but there were rules about what kind of drugs a doctor could use, right?
Hearing Claire’s words, Ophelia was speechless and said, “Aunt Claire, Uncle Henry went out of his way to keep you safe, but you just won’t stop until you get yourself in real trouble, huh?”
“What are you even talking about? I don’t get it!” Claire shot Ophelia a furious glare. ‘Is Ophelia insulting me or threatening me?’ she wondered.
“If you don’t stir up trouble, trouble won’t come to you. That’s just how it is,” Ophelia sighed and shook her head. She ignored Claire and kept getting ready.
“Ophelia, are you even listening to me? I’m serious. I’ll call the cops!” Claire was fuming, feeling completely ignored.
“No hurry, Aunt Claire. I already called the cops. They are on the way,” Ophelia said, not missing a beat as she continued her preparations. “Feel free to tell them whatever you want when they get here.”
“What do you mean by that? Aren’t you even a little worried the cops might come after you?” Claire was totally thrown off. ‘ How can she be so calm?’ she wondered.
“She hasn’t done anything wrong. Why would she be scared of getting investigated?” There suddenly came a cold, annoyed
voice.
The ward door swung open, and Miles strode in. He stared at Claire coldly and said, “Aunt Claire, why are you so determined to stop Ophelia from treating Grandpa? What’s your real motive?”
“I’m just worried, okay? That antidote of hers is basically some unregulated stuff. Who knows if it’ll even work?” Claire bit the bullet and explained, trying to sound reasonable.
‘Why is Miles showing up now? Is he here to back up Ophelia?’ Claire wondered, anxiety creeping in.
‘It doesn’t matter. Even if Miles is here to back her up, as long as there’s something wrong with that antidote, I can make sure they never get to use it, Claire schemed, her mind spinning
