Chapter 442
But the coldness in his eyes made Claire’s heart thud with anxiely.
“Oh, Henry…” Claire blurted out, her voice trembling with panic. She had never expected they’d actually get all the paperwork done.
“Miles, how did you guys manage to get all these approvals so quickly?” Henry asked, pretending to be curious. Miles could hear the suspicion in Henry’s voice, but he just smirked, completely unfazed. “My lab’s been researching antidotes for a long time, and I’ve been applying for the patent. The patent just happened to get approved at the perfect
time.”
“Isn’t that just a bait-and-switch?” Henry’s face darkened. ‘How is this any different from faking it?’ he douted.
“All antidotes are basically the same. Since this is my project, I get to decide what it is,” Miles replied, calm as ever. ‘Yeah, I’m totally faking it. But what are you gonna do about it? You don’t have any proof anyway, Miles thought with a smug look on his face.
“Even so, there’s no way you could’ve gotten clinical approval so fast,” Henry snapped, his chest tight with anger. He could only grit his teeth and try to change the subject.
‘There’s no way he could’ve gamed the clinical process,’ Henry thought, still refusing to believe it.
“Uncle Henry, you do know you can apply for clinical trials before a new drug goes public, right?” Ophelia raised her eyebrows, her voice mocking.
“I already applied for Grandpa, and it got approved,” Miles said, his calm words hitting Henry and Claire hard. Henry clutched his chest while Claire looked like she’d seen a ghost. Both of them were totally speechless. They’d clearly played the system, but everything was perfectly legal. No one could call them out on it. “Thank you, Miles,” Ophelia said, knowing she never would’ve gotten this far without him backing her up. “Don’t thank me. If it wasn’t for you, this antidote wouldn’t even exist,” Miles said, his eyes blazing with pride as he looked at Ophelia. For the first time, he truly saw her potential and strength.
“She’s indeed a miracle worker. She’s the real deal!” The other experts couldn’t help but gush over Ophelia.
As everyone kept praising Ophelia, Claire scowled and grumbled under her breath, “She’s just a kid. So what if she knows a little about medicine? How amazing could she possibly be?”
‘She’s called a genius doctor. She has no clue how out of her depth she really is,’ Claire sneered secretly.
She’d heard all the rumors before, but honestly, it sounded way too far-fetched. ‘Even if Ophelia knows a thing or two about medicine, there’s no way she’s some miracle worker. She’s just trying to boost her reputation with a flashy nickname, Claire
rolled her eyes.
“Aunt Claire, Ophelia’s the real deal. She doesn’t just go around helping anyone who asks. If it wasn’t for Grandpa, she wouldn’t have even revealed her true identity,” Miles mocked. “Most people would kill to know who Ophelia really is, but you’ re acting like she’s nothing special. What, you think you’ll never get sick? Or are you just salty that Ophelia ruined your little scheme?”
‘Does she really think ignoring Ophelia will erase everything she’s done?’ Miles sneered.
‘Has she ever thought that if it wasn’t for Grandpa, she wouldn’t even get to know Ophelia’s true identity?’ he thought with a trace of contempt in his eyes.
Claire’s face turned pale, but she couldn’t come up with a single word to fight back.
