Chapter 443
Claire had done something stupid and got caught, yet she still dared to make things difficult for Ophelia.
“Apologize to her?” Claire’s face instantly turned pale as paper. “How could I ever show my face again if I did that?’ she thought.
Miles shot Claire a cold, warning look and said, “Aunt Claire, do you really think you don’t owe her an apology?”
“I didn’t say anything that bad. Why should I apologize?” Claire still wasn’t willing to back down. ‘I would be utterly embarrassed if I apologized to Ophelia, she thought.
“You just put Ophelia down like that. Don’t you think you owe her an apology?” Miles pressed, his tone growing even sharper. “Or do you think it’s no big deal to say whatever you want, Aunt Claire?”
A chill crept down Claire’s spine, and a sense of dread settled in
‘Why are these brats so intimidating?’ Claire thought, frustration bubbling up inside her.
‘Why didn’t I ever realize before just how much of a pain in the ass they could be?’ she wondered.
“Miles, maybe we should just let this go. Claire probably didn’t mean anything by it,” Henry tried to smooth things over, though his face was clearly unhappy.
Ophelia gave Henry a frosty, sarcastic look and said, “Uncle Henry, do you really think Aunt Claire was just being thoughtless, huh?”
“Fine, let’s just say she didn’t mean it,” Ophelia replied, her eyes calm and intimidating.
Henry opened his mouth, but couldn’t say a word.
He couldn’t quite explain it, but there was something about Ophelia right now that felt different, almost unsettling compared to her usual self.
It was as if she was way more mature and commanding for a girl her age.
The thought flickered through Henry’s mind, and he glanced up at Ophelia, only to find that usual side of her had vanished. She was back to her usual, gentle self.
Shaking his head, Henry wondered if he was just overthinking it Still, he turned to Claire and said sternly, “Enough! Since Ophelia’s letting it go, you should act like an elder.”
Claire’s face went ghostly pale as she nodded meekly, “I will.”
Even though she didn’t have to apologize, she found her face flushed with embarrassment.
With so many people watching, she felt utterly embarrassed.
‘That damn Ophelia is my worst enemy for sure, Claire thought bitterly.
“Miles, I’m going to detox Grandpa,” Ophelia said, not even sparing Claire or Henry a glance as she headed to her grandfather.
“I’ll assist you,” Elijah said, stepping up immediately. The other experts quickly gathered around, eager to see how Ophelia was going to do her work.
Miles watched as Henry and Claire’s expressions changed quickly with their eyes nervously flicking toward the hospital bed. His eyes darkened and he said, “Grandpa will be waking up soon. Uncle Henry, be sure to keep him company. And Aunt Claire… do as you’re told and cooperate with the investigation.”
Seeing the couple silent, Miles raised his eyebrows and asked with a hint of sarcasm in his voice, “Why the long face, Uncle Henry?”
“No, I’m just here to visit my father. Of course I’m glad he’s waking up,” Henry forced a smile.
He had just let out a sigh of relief, thinking Ophelia was finally going to drop it.
‘But if that old man really wakes up…’ Henry’s nerves started acting up again.
