Chapter 445
Miles couldn’t shake the feeling that whenever Ophelia spoke with that effortlessly calm demeanor, it left him vaguely unsettled. The more he watched her, the more he realized there was a lot more to this girl than met the eye. Ophelia was definitely not someone to underestimate.
“As long as Grandpa wakes up, nothing else matters,” Oliver said calmly, his gaze drifting toward the hallway outside the ward. He could hear the sound of slightly chaotic footsteps approaching.
Feeling ignored by Miles, Henry was a bit put out, but he also turned to look outside.
The police arrived.
After questioning them, they took Mr. Gideon away and asked Claire to come down to the station to assist with the investigation.
“Okay,” this time Claire was unusually quiet, not protesting her innocence anymore. She looked at Henry and reminded him,” Wait here for Dad’s test results. When he comes back, let him know I’m just going to explain things to the police and I’ll be back soon.”
“Alright, I got it,” Henry replied, but there was a meaningful look in his eyes when he looked at Claire.
Claire lowered her head and followed the police out. She was usually calm.
Ophelia’s cold eyes narrowed.
Suddenly, she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. Looking up, she met Miles’s meaningful gaze. She got what he meant, and nodded with a smile.
She wasn’t in any rush. After all, those bad people would give themselves away eventually.
Honestly, with her gandpa awake, nothing else really mattered.
Henry glanced at the siblings, noticing how they didn’t seem to care at all about Claire. For a split second, his eyes darkened. ‘Are they really that indifferent, or is there something I’m missing?’ he wondered.
The news that Mr. Rowle had woken up spread through the Rowle family in no time.
Since the whole poisoning thing had been kept hush-hush from the start, his recovery was handled just as quietly. Nobody made a big deal out of it.
After getting checked out, Mr. Rowle left the hospital and headed back to the Rowle Manor.
By the time he arrived, the whole family had gathered, but their faces were quite different.
“Dad, thank goodness you’re alright,” Miles breathed out, finally letting go of all the tension over the past few days.
The rest of the family quickly joined in, putting on a show of concern and fussing over Mr. Rowle.
Having just recovered, Mr. Rowle still looked a bit worn out. He gave a short reply and waved his hand impatiently. “I need a rest. All of you can leave. Ophelia, you stay.”
“Grandpa, you still need someone to look after you. How about stay and help out?” Bianca jumped in eagerly, trying to be helpful.
With her parents behind bars and her grandpa just waking up, Blanca was desperate to figure out what was really going on. But her grandpa didn’t say a word. He only kept Ophelia around. Bianca felt frustrated. ‘Why is it always Ophelia? What am I missing here?’ she thought.
“No need. All of you, out,” Mr. Rowle said, shooting Bianca a cool dismissive glance.
Mr. Rowle looked genuinely frail and worn out, but Bianca still felt uneasy. ‘If he’s really that weak, shouldn’t he be resting? Why is he asking Ophelia to stay?’ she wondered.
Almost as if he could read her mind, Miles said coldly, “Grandpa just woke up. Let Ophelia take another look at him. The rest of us should wait outside.”
“But…” Bianca barely got a word out before Henry gently interrupted, “Bianca, let’s not disturb Grandpa right now. We can talk to him once he’s feeling better, alright?”
