Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 450

Chapter 450

Chapter 450

Ophelia found her temples throbbing as she lowered her voice and warned, “That’s enough.”

‘He really doesn’t give a damn about his reputation anymore. His boss pride? It’s gone,’ Ophelia thought.

“What’s wrong? Things didn’t go well?” Alaric asked, his concern obvious. “Has Oliver really turned into a stone-cold jerk toward you now?”

Before Ophelia could reply, Alaric continued, “Ophelia, maybe we should just forget about it. As long as you like me, I don’t care if you make our relationship official or not. I don’t want you to feel pressured because of me.”

Ophelia was amused by how ridiculous Alaric was. ‘Not only is he playing the victim now, but he’s even trying to pull some reverse psychology on me,’ she thought.

“Alright then, I think it works for me too,” Ophelia agreed, cool as a cucumber.

There was a moment of stunned silence on the other end of the phone. Alaric clearly hadn’t expected Ophelia to just play along and throw him off like that.

“Oh, no, don’t you love me anymore, Ophelia?” Alaric whined, sounding just like a jilted lover who couldn’t stand being left behind.

Ophelia had enough and just hung up.

‘He’s being such a drama king again. Seriously, he’s driving me crazy, Ophelia complained.

“Ophelia, you and him…” Oliver shot her a strange look, honestly surprised. He had never expected Alaric could act like that. “Oh, just pretend you didn’t hear any of that, Oliver,” Ophelia muttered awkwardly, rubbing her temples speechlessly. ‘Doesn’t Alaric realize that acting like this is just going to make liver think even less of him?’ Ophelia thought.

‘Is he doing this on purpose just to mess with Oliver, knowing we’re together? Nah, he wouldn’t… would he?’ she thought. Ophelia somehow had this hunch she’d hit the nail on the head.

“Ophelia, are you really sure about this?” Oliver hesitated, sighing.

Honestly, Alaric got it all. He was one of the top young men in Dunhollow, no question.

Still, Oliver couldn’t help but think Ophelia was way too young to be caught up in such romance drama.

But if this was what Ophelia wanted, he didn’t really see any reason to stop her.

It was just… after seeing Alaric act like that, Oliver couldn’t help feeling a little conflicted.

Ophelia was quiet for a moment, and nodded slightly, “Yeah.”

Now that things had come to this, there was no reason to keep it a secret anymore. She might as well tell Oliver the truth. Oliver paused before changing the subject, “I’ll handle what you asked about earlier. And about you wanting to be the head of talent at the company, it’s all set up. Just say the word and you can start.”

“Alright,” Ophelia smiled. She wasn’t bothered by how Oliver felt about her and Alaric. Whenever she made a decision, she stuck to it.

The next day.

Ophelia went to the Rowle Group as promised.

In the CEO’s office, Oliver was sitting at his desk. When he heard footsteps, he looked up, and his eyes lit up with a gentle smile as he saw Ophelia. “Hey, Ophelia, you came.”

“There’s news about Aunt Claire. She’ll be released soon,” Ophelia said, calm as ever, like she’d already seen this coming. “Mr. Gideon took the fall for everything, so of course the police had to let her go,” Oliver replied, just as unfazed. She’d probably seen this outcome coming.

“Uncle Henry didn’t come in today. He’s probably gone to pick her up,” Oliver added.

“Yeah,” Ophelia nodded, not asking any more questions.

They exchanged a look understandingly, and neither of them brought up Claire again.

The door was suddenly knocked on.

Someone said loudly, “Mr. Rowle, Mr. Caldwell

Successfully unlocked!

“Mr. Caldwell?” Ophelia frowned a little, subconsciously looking at the door.

As expected, Alaric walked in like he owned the place, his eyes softening with a warm smile the moment he saw Ophelia. “What are you doing here?” Ophelia blurted out in surprise, her gaze flickering between Alaric and Oliver.

Even though both of them were acting all calm and collected, Ophelia somehow felt some tension between them. ‘Why did Alaric suddenly show up in Oliver’s office?’ Ophelia wondered.

“I’m just here to talk shop,” Alaric said casually, sitting next to Ophelia like it was the most natural thing in the world. Ophelia suddenly found the atmosphere in the room awkwardly tense.

“I don’t recall any business that actually requires us to meet face-to-face, Mr. Caldwell, Oliver shot Alaric a cold look. “Well, there wasn’t before, but now that I’m here, there is,” Alaric eplied, totally unfazed. Honestly, his thick skin made others want to throw him out on the spot.

‘Isn’t he just barging in uninvited and refusing to leave?’ Ophelia wondered.

Oliver raised his brows at Alaric and said, “Alright then…”

After a pause, he glanced at Ophelia and said comfortably, “Ophelia, go do your thing. I’ve got business to talk over with Alaric.”

Alaric’s eyes darkened for a moment. ‘He really is a schemer,’ he thought.

Sure, the Rowle Group and the Caldwell Group had a partnership, but there was no reason for both CEOs to meet in person. After years of cooperation, everything was business as usual. There was no need to make a big deal out of it.

It seemed Alaric was obviously here for Ophelia, and it was clear Oliver was just trying to send her out of the room.

“No problem,” Alaric said, boldly pulling Ophelia closer. “Ophelia’s a shareholder in the Rowle Group too. There’s nothing off- limits for her.”

Oliver’s lips twitched a little. ‘How can he come up with such an excuse?’ she thought.

Watching the two of them go back and forth, each trying to outmaneuver the other, Ophelia had a headache and she just felt completely helpless.

‘What can I even say?’ she thought.

It suddenly occurred to her that maybe Oliver’s dislike for Alaric wasn’t entirely his fault after all.

Oliver completely tuned Alaric out and locked his gaze on Ophelia with unwavering focus, like as long as she stayed in the room, he’d never look away.

Feeling a bit sheepish, Ophelia awkwardly rubbed her nose and could only get up and say, “Well, I’ll get to work then.”

“Work?” Alaric raised his eyebrows, a little confused.
