Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 464

Chapter 464

Alaric didn’t care about the process, he only wanted results.

If he couldn’t come up with a surefire plan and was just doing this for the sake of handing something in, then what was the point of all this? He’d rather be hanging out with Ophelia instead.

Just thinking about Ophelia made Alaric’s icy expression soften for a moment.

Seeing this, Ryan carefully suggested, “Mr. Caldwell, maybe you should take a short break. We’ll keep talking things over

here.”

Alaric’s gaze swept across everyone’s faces before he said seriously, “Ten minutes break.”

“Yes, sir.” Everyone looked like a weight had been lifted off their shoulders, and they quickly got up to get some air.

The project was a mess, and the deadline was looming. Everyone felt like their heads were about to explode.

Alaric went back to his room, but Ophelia was nowhere to be seen. His expression tightened. ‘Where did she go?’ he thought.

Just then, Ophelia walked in and froze for a moment when she saw him. “Is the meeting over?”

“Just taking a break,” Alaric said, glancing at the bag in her hand. “Did you go shopping?”

“I picked up some ingredients to try making an antidote,” Ophelia said casually as she set the bag down. “We can’t head back to Dunhollow for now, so I’ll try to put the antidote together first, better to get it done before things get complicated.”

A faint smile appeared on Alaric’s lips. ‘Guess she’s planning to stick around with me, he thought.

Just having Ophelia around was enough to calm his nerves.

“You look stressed. Work not going well?” Ophelia asked, handing him a glass of water. “Is it really that bad?”

She was just making conversation, not expecting Alaric to actually answer, after all, it was his company’s problem, not hers.

But to her surprise, Alaric pulled her to sit next to him and said softly, “We had a plan ready, but it got leaked right before the bid. Now we have to scrap everything and start from scratch.”

Yeah, this was a real mess. The worst part was, they were running out of time.

Ophelia frowned, something suddenly clicking in her mind. She asked without thinking, “Was that call you got the other day because of this?”

‘Seriously, he was so calm back then, like nothing had happened at all; Ophelia thought.

He even had lunch with her before telling her he had to leave on a business trip.

Alaric hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Yeah.”

Ophelia frowned, still not getting it. “With something that urgent, how were you so chill that day?”

“I just wanted to have lunch with you before I left,” Alaric admitted, a hint of a smile on his lips. He knew once he was gone, it might be days before he saw her again.

Ophelia opened her mouth, but in the end, she just let out a helpless laugh, both annoyed and amused by his answer. “Alaric, I’m starting to think you’ve got the makings of a real foolish king,” Ophelia teased, shaking her head. ‘He’s got a huge crisis at work, but all he cares about is having lunch with me? Seriously.’

Alaric lifted his chin, looking all smug. “If it’s for you, I’ll gladly be a foolish king.”
