Chapter 477
George’s lips twitched. ‘Is he seriously trying to mock me right now?’ he thought, feeling his face stiffen.
He really had been through a rough patch lately, and things had only just started to settle down, and Alaric was definitely in the loop.
George had never seen anyone stab someone in the back and then turn around acting all smug, throwing shade at the very person they’d just messed with.
“Good for Caldwell Group, I guess. Wish I had your luck, Mr. Caldwell. Someone’s been targeting me for a while, and it took ages to finally get things under control. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be asking Ophelia for help.
“With her skills backing me up, I know this investment won’t flop,” George couldn’t help but throw some barbs right back at Alaric, his words dripping with sarcasm.
“Guess your luck really hasn’t been great, Mr. Brown,” Alaric said coolly, not even blinking.
He actually managed to look like he felt bad for George.
George felt like his chest was stuffed with cotton, tight and suffocating.”
Ophelia listened to their conversation, which sounded normal on the surface, but the tension underneath was so obvious she just felt totally helpless.
‘Is it really just because of who they are? Why do they have to start throwing shade at each other every single time?’ she thought.
‘Are Caldwell Group and George actually rivals in Dunhollow?’ she wondered.
‘Business competition is one thing, but do they have to be at each other’s throat’s even when it’s not about work?’ she thought.
‘Are these two really just a couple of big kids?’ she couldn’t help but think.
When Ophelia glanced over, Alaric instantly put on his best innocent puppy eyes, looking for all the world like a harmless big dog.
George gave Alaric a look of obvious annoyance, then turned to Ophelia with a polite, faint smile. “Guess we should order a few more dishes now that Mr. Caldwell’s joined us.”
“No need. Ophelia and I can just share one plate,” Alaric said, acting all sweet and clingy.
Ophelia almost got a toothache from how cheesy he was being and couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Either order your own food or go hungry.”
‘No way he’s getting any of my food. I only ordered enough for myself, not for him,’ she thought.
More importantly, she definitely didn’t want to be the main attraction, sharing a plate with him like some couple for everyone to gawk at.
“Ophelia,” Alaric let out a helpless sigh, “are you really that put off by me?”
“Yes,” Ophelia shot back, glaring at him without hesitation.
She gave him a warning look, her eyes saying, ‘Enough already, drama king.’
George raised an eyebrow, his tone openly provocative. “So, Mr. Caldwell, you planning to bail?”
Alaric’s eyes darkened for a moment before he shook his head. “Guess you’ll just have to be disappointed, Mr. Brown.”
