Chapter 479
“We?” Ophelia shot Alaric a puzzled glance. “Is there something you need?”
She’d thought it was just a random run-in, but now it looked like he’d actually come here just for her.
“Not really, I just missed you,” Alaric replied, his voice open, with a playful edge.
Ophelia’s probing look nearly broke into exasperation. ‘Why did I ever think he’d act serious for once?’ she thought.
“I don’t have time to entertain you. Eat your food and then leave,” Ophelia said, her glare sharp with both warning and threat. Alaric looked genuinely hurt, but Ophelia shot him a death glare, ‘Or you can leave right now,’ she warned silently.
“Fine, let’s just eat then,” Alaric sighed under his breath, finally giving in.
Seeing him settle down, Ophelia finally relaxed a little inside.
If he kept acting up, there was no way they’d get through this meal, at this rate, they’d end up as the restaurant’s main spectacle.
“Here, Ophelia, have some of this. It’s your favorite,” Alaric said, serving her food with obvious care.
Ophelia found herself eating faster and faster, her only goal now was to finish up and make a quick escape.
George watched quietly as the two bantered, his gaze turning somber.
One could tell they were really close, even their squabbles felt easy and natural, more like playful teasing than any real fight.
A sour ache twisted in George’s chest, and suddenly, everything tasted bland and bitter.
Everyone had their own thoughts swirling as they ate, and once lunch was over, the group filed out of the restaurant. “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Mr. Brown,” Alaric said, not even giving George a chance to get a word in before basically kicking him out.
O
“Not leaving yet, Mr. Caldwell?” George raised an eyebrow, shooting back, “Pretty sure Ophelia didn’t actually say yes to what you just suggested.”
He knew there was no way he could actually make Alaric leave, but he wasn’t about to let the guy get too smug about it. “Don’t trouble yourself about me, Mr. Brown. Ophelia wouldn’t have the heart to make me sad, right?” Alaric said, turning to Ophelia and giving her his best puppy eyes. “Isn’t that right, Ophelia?”
Ophelia’s lips twitched, and she gritted her teeth, her voice low and threatening. “You need to leave too.”
He’s really getting way too into this whole act,’ she thought, exasperated.
“That means you agree, Ophelia!” Alaric declared, looking absolutely delighted. Without missing a beat, he took her hand and confidently led her off toward Rowle Group.
D
Ophelia could only shake her head, half amused, half helpless, but she didn’t bother telling him to leave again.
“Ophelia, I feel dizzy,” Alaric said, sounding all pitiful as if hoping for some extra sympathy.
“When did it start?” Ophelia frowned, a flash of concern in her eyes.
