Chapter 481
‘Did you just throw this together? This liquid looks way too sketchy: Alaric thought, eyeing the cup warily.
And honestly, that color alone makes me want to run for the hills.
“You’re not my husband,” Ophelia shot back, rolling her eyes at Alaric. She turned, walked over to her desk, sat down, and glanced at him. “Just drink it and head out. I’ve got work to do.”
Since she wouldn’t be coming in tomorrow, she had to get ahead on her work today so it wouldn’t pile up.
Alaric hesitated for a moment, then downed the medicine in one gulp. He flashed Ophelia a playful grin. “I’m free now, so I’ll keep you company.”
“No thanks. You’ll just distract me,” Ophelia shot back, giving him an exasperated glare.
Honestly, who can actually get any work done with someone hovering over them?
Seeing Alaric about to protest, Ophelia cut him off. “Besides, you need to get ready for tomorrow’s detox. Afterward, you won’t be able to move around much for about two hours, and there are some other things you’ll need to keep in mind…”
She explained the whole process and all the precautions to Alaric, making sure he’d be prepared ahead of time.
Alaric could only agree, though he sounded a bit reluctant. “Alright, then.”
He had no choice but to leave, even though all he wanted was to stay and watch her for a little longer.
Once she’d finished explaining everything, Ophelia just lowered her head and got busy, totally focused on her work.
Alaric let out a quiet laugh, shook his head, and tiptoed out of her office.
As soon as he walked out, he ran right into someone.
“Mr. Caldwell,” Bianca said, sounding a little surprised. But when her gaze flicked to the office behind him, her eyes grew cold. She bit back her feelings, trying to act casual. “Came to see Ophelia, huh?”
“Yeah,” Alaric replied coolly, then turned to head for the elevator.
But out of nowhere, Bianca suddenly lost her footing and stumbled right toward Alaric.
Thud!
She was sure Alaric would catch her, but to her shock, he just moved out of the way and didn’t even try to help.
Her mind went totally blank, lying there in complete disbelief.
“Bianca, are you alright?” her assistant hurried over, worry written all over her face as she helped Bianca up. “Did you just fall? Are you feeling unwell? Should I call a doctor?”
“Shut up,” Bianca hissed through gritted teeth, her voice low and seething with anger.
The assistant didn’t dare say another word. She helped Bianca steady herself, then quickly backed away to the side.
“Take her to see a doctor,” Alaric said dryly, not bothering to hide his indifference.
Bianca’s head shot up, eyes shining with hope. ‘Wait, is Alaric actually showing concern for me?’ she wondered, barely daring to believe it.
“Falling over for no reason? Maybe there’s something wrong with your head,” Alaric said coldly. He didn’t even look back as he walked away.
As Alaric’s tall figure disappeared down the hallway, Bianca bit her lip so hard it almost bled, desperately clinging to the last thread of her composure.
