Chapter 484
Ophelia blinked in confusion, not quite catching what Ella was getting at.
But seeing that suggestive grin on Ella’s face, Ophelia figured she probably didn’t want to know what Ella was really hinting
Before Ophelia could stop her, Ella blurted out, “Come on, think about it. You’ve got Mr. Caldwell all fit and strong now. That’ s gotta be useful, right?”
Ophelia’s lips twitched in disgust. “Just shut up.”
‘I knew she’d never say anything decent, Ophelia thought.
‘What the hell is she even saying?’ Ophelia thought.
“Oh? Ophelia, are you worried about my ‘usefulness’?” Suddenly, a figure loomed over her, casting a shadow. Alaric’s teasing voice sounded in her ear. “Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to test it out for yourself.”
“Just zip it,” Ophelia shot Alaric a furious glare and stepped into the elevator first.
Just as Alaric was about to follow, Ophelia hit the close button and shot him a threatening look. “Wait for the next one.”
“Boss, I…” Ella started to step into the elevator, but Ophelia gritted her teeth and warned, “You can leave.”
‘If Ella hadn’t shot her mouth off, would I be this embarrassed right now?’ Ophelia grumbled to herself.
“Oh,” Ella mumbled, sounding deflated, and didn’t dare follow Ophelia into the elevator.
Ella knew Ophelia wasn’t truly angry, but she was smart enough not to test her patience at a time like this.
“Bye, Boss! Just call if you need anything, I’m always on standby,” Ella said, then quickly slipped away.
The elevator doors were almost shut when, at the very last moment, Alaric reached out to block them and slipped in.
Ophelia gave him a look of utter annoyance. “Why did you come in here?”
“It’s rush hour. Elevators are hard to catch,” Alaric said matter-of-factly, not bothered at all by his own excuse. Ophelia’s lips twitched as she rolled her eyes. ‘Isn’t this supposed to be your exclusive elevator, Mr. Caldwell?’ she thought. As if he could read her mind, Alaric flashed a mischievous smile and leaned in a little closer. “What if I said I just wanted to spend more time with you, Ophelia? You wouldn’t kick me out then, would you?”
Ophelia’s heart skipped a beat, and her already flustered face turned even redder.
She never expected Alaric to actually catch Ella’s joke, and now she was so embarrassed she wished the ground would just swallow her up. Being stuck in the elevator with him made her feel ridiculously awkward.
And of course, this guy was doing it on purpose, constantly bringing up the topic and making her want to just disappear. Noticing how nervous she was, Alaric’s lips curled into a wicked grin. He pulled her hand to his abs, his voice low and teasing, “Why not feel for yourself?”
“Alaric, that’s enough!” Ophelia yanked her hand back like she’d touched a live wire and snapped, “Who just lets people touch them like that, huh?”
‘Seriously, what goes on in this guy’s head?’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.
“I don’t mind at all. If you wanna cop a feel, just go for it,” Alaric said, acting like he didn’t care one bit, if anything, he almost sounded eager.
“Just shut up already,” Ophelia groaned, feeling like her head was about to explode. ‘Does he even hear himself right now?” she thought.
“Oh, so you don’t wanna touch me?” Alaric sighed, sounding genuinely disappointed. “I spent forever sculpting these eight- pack abs. I thought you’d be into them.”
“Abs?” Ophelia echoed, still a little out of it.
‘Wait, he really meant his abs?’ Ophelia thought, still a little out of it.
“Yeah,” Alaric said, giving her that all-innocent look. “What else did you think I was talking about, Ophelia?”
Ophelia could practically hear cartoon crows cawing overhead.
‘Did I seriously think he meant something else’y the bu
