Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 486

Chapter 486

Back in his office, Alaric’s secretary brought in his coffee.

When he saw it wasn’t Ryan, a flicker of displeasure flashed in Alaric’s eyes.

“Mr. Caldwell, the meeting starts in five minutes. The conference room is ready, and the other party has already arrived. Mr. Brooks has taken them to the conference room,” the secretary said respectfully, reminding him of his schedule.

“Mm,” Alaric replied, then instructed, “Prepare some pastries, fruit, coffee, and drinks for Ophelia and send them over.”

“Yes, sir,” the secretary nodded respectfully.

Soon, Alaric left his office and headed to the conference room.

In the room next door, Ophelia was setting up for the detox, making all the necessary preparations.

With Alaric not around to constantly tease her, she could finally work in peace, and her efficiency soared.

‘All done. Now I just have to wait for Alaric to finish and show up, Ophelia thought, nodding in satisfaction as she surveyed

her work.

Knock, knock, knock.

Someone knocked on the door. Ophelia looked up and called out, “Come in.”

The door swung open, and the secretary, looking a bit unsure, said, “Ms. Rowle, Mr. Caldwell asked if you could come to the conference room.”

“He wants me to go over?” Ophelia’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Did he say what for?”

‘Why does he want me at the meeting?’ Ophelia wondered.

“Well…” The secretary hesitated for a moment before lowering her voice. “It seems to be about the design plans. Mr. Caldwell said you’d be able to sort everything out once you get there.”

She didn’t really get why, but since Alaric had given the order, she simply did as she was told.

Ophelia paused for a second, then nodded. “Alright, I’ll go take a look.”

She knew the folks from Calithra were here because of the last bidding project. If it was about the design, they probably had some questions for her.

Ophelia followed the secretary into the conference room.

With all eyes on her, Ophelia approached Alaric with composure. “What’s going on? Is there a problem with the design?”

“The design’s fine. It’s just that someone’s questioning the designer’s identity,” Alaric replied with an innocent shrug, looking a bit helpless.

So he had to ask the designer to come and prove herself.

Ophelia’s eyes narrowed for a moment as she gave Alaric a sideways, exasperated glance. Judging by the way he was watching the show, it was obvious he’d set this up on purpose.

“You’re the designer behind this draft?” a man asked, their voice full of doubt and mistrust.

“That’s right,” Ophelia replied, turning to face them. Her cold stare carried a quiet intensity.

The man was middle-aged, wearing black-rimmed glasses that made him look stiff and old-fashioned.

The man with the black-rimmed glasses looked Ophelia up and down, then pushed his glasses up with a complicated expression. “You don’t look very old.”

She probably was still a student, but her presence was so commanding, like she was born to be in charge. Seeing such a mix in a young girl like her was just odd to him.

“Who says being young means one can’t be a designer?” Ophelia retorted, raising an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed by his nitpicking.

Now it clicked for her, these people had suddenly called a meeting and were unhappy with the designer because she wasn’ t well-known. They probably had other ideas in mind.

A mocking smirk tugged at Ophelia’s lips as she pulled out a chair and sat down, giving the man with the black-rimmed glasses a calm, expectant look, clearly waiting for his answer.

The man’s expression soured, but he forced a calSuccessfully unlocked!

“Then let’s cut to the chase,” Ophelia said, her sharp gaze sweeping over his face, her voice low and full of authority. “Why are you looking for the designer now?”

The design had already been approved and the bid was secured. So calling in the designer at that point was just bizarre.

Meeting Ophelia’s sharp gaze, the man with the black-rimmed glasses felt like she could see right through him. He quickly looked away, flustered and unable to meet her eyes.

He cleared his throat and finally spoke up, “Well, the thing is, we’re aiming for this to be a landmark project. But you’re not exactly a big name in the industry…”

Honestly, he figured Ophelia was probably just a rookie, sure, she had some talent, but she was pretty much unknown.

After a brief pause, he added, “So we were thinking of crediting a famous designer as the lead instead. But don’t worry, your name will still be mentioned. Once this project wraps up, you’ll have a major work to put on your resume.”

“So, who did you have in mind for lead designer?” Ophelia asked, her voice steady, a hint of amusement flickering in her eyes.

‘So that’s their game, using my designs to pad someone else’s portfolio, Ophelia mused, unimpressed.

“Don’t worry, we’ll bring in a big name from the industry,” the man with the black-rimmed glasses kept trying to convince her. “If you work as their assistant, you’ll get your name out there fast. It’s good for you, really.”

“Mm, makes sense,” Ophelia nodded, playing along.

“You agree?” The man with the black-rimmed glasses nearly shouted, his voice rising with excitement.
