Chapter 487
“Hold on,” Alaric said coolly, giving the man with the black-rimmed glasses a frosty look. “You’ve misunderstood us. The designer we brought in is actually quite renowned.”
Then he turned to Ophelia, his gaze softening. “Aren’t you going to introduce yourself?”
Ophelia shot Alaric a look that clearly said, ‘I knew it.’ She knew this was exactly why he wanted her here.
She let out a sigh with a hint of disdain. “I’d rather not.”
Ophelia thought, ‘They’re not even worth me revealing my identity. I wouldn’t lower myself to that.’
She trusted her designs to speak for themselves. She didn’t need any big name or reputation attached, her work alone was enough to make it a city landmark.
Plus, her real specialty was in fashion and jewelry design. She only took on this architecture gig to help Alaric out, and honestly, she never wanted her name listed as the architect in the first place.
“That’s a shame,” Alaric said regretfully, though his eyes sparkled with amusement.
Ophelia rolled her eyes at him, clearly not in the mood to play along.
Alaric just grinned and shrugged with easy confidence. “Ophelia’s call.”
“Quit playing games,” the man with the black-rimmed glasses snapped, his tone sharp with irritation. “Let me make this clear, if you turn down my offer, don’t expect me to put another cent into this project.”
Ophelia arched an eyebrow, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Wow, pulling out the big threats now, huh?”
She thought, ‘Is this guy out of his mind? Who does he think he’s trying to scare?’
The man with the black-rimmed glasses smugly lifted his chin, acting all superior. “You can still change your minds. I’m giving you one last chance.”
He thought, ‘Bet they’re freaking out now. Handling these people is a piece of cake.’
“Regret?” Ophelia’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smirk. Her tone was pure disdain. “You should really think about how you’re going to explain this mess to your crush when you crawl back to her.”
His smug grin vanished in an instant, and he stared at Ophelia, totally stunned.
He thought, ‘What the hell did she just say?
‘How the hell does she know?’
Ophelia let out a soft snort. ‘Man, he’s got simp written all over him. Still, I wonder, if I said yes, would his crush actually give him a shot?’
The man with the black-rimmed glasses looked at Ophelia, a flash of panic in his eyes, but he tried to sound tough. “What are you even talking about? I’m just doing what’s best for the project.”
“Oh, just for the project?” Ophelia gave him a sarcastic smile. “Fine, then go tell the project lead we don’t need to credit any designer. And about that extra investment you mentioned, just let him know someone else is already putting money in.” “Who’s investing?” The man with the black-rimmed glasses frowned, clearly annoyed. “Don’t forget, Caldwell Group is only bidding for the construction, they’re not actually investing in this project.”
He thought, ‘Alaric’s got money, but don’t think you can count on him./
