Chapter 495
In Oliver’s office, after listening to Ophelia’s account of what happened, Oliver nodded calmly. “You handled it well.” But his eyes were dark and stormy. ‘The Vossen family…’ he thought.
Feeling the hostility radiating from Oliver, Ophelia understood how he felt. She sighed, “I didn’t expect it to be him either. He’ s been away from Dunhollow for ages, and I haven’t heard a thing from him. Honestly, I thought he’d never come back.” After all, the Vossen family had always been cold and distant. She really hadn’t thought Carter would ever come back to cause her trouble.
“So, what’s your plan now?” Oliver’s gaze grew colder, his whole presence giving off an icy vibe.
“He’s probably licking his wounds after this mess. As long as he stays out of my way, I couldn’t care less about him,” Ophelia replied, her tone steady.
Even though Carter’s sudden appearance had caught her off guard, she’d been ready for him, he didn’t get what he wanted. “You’re just going to let him walk away?” Oliver frowned, not looking pleased.
He really didn’t think Carter deserved to get off that easy. Leaving such a plotter unchecked was an invitation for future trouble.
Ophelia met Oliver’s eyes, seeing the concern there. She nodded. “I get it. I’ll be careful.”
“If you ever need help, just let me know,” Oliver said, making sure she knew he had her back.
“Don’t worry, Oliver,” Ophelia said, curving her lips into a smile. She chatted with him for a bit longer before heading out of
his office.
After she left, a dark look flashed in Oliver’s eyes. He turned to his assistant. “Track down Carter’s whereabouts, and keep tabs on everything he does.”
O
Even though they’d hit Carter hard this time, there was no way they could let their guard down.
Oliver couldn’t help but wonder how Carter, who had run away before, managed to come back with enough power to go after Ophelia in just a few months. ‘How did he get so strong so fast?’ he thought.
‘If he really had that kind of power, why did he disappear overnight in the first place?’ Oliver thought.
A thought flashed through his mind, and he ordered coldly, “Dig into Carter’s movements since he left, especially who he’s been spending time with.”
‘If Carter couldn’t pull this off alone, then someone out there must be helping him…’ Oliver narrowed his eyes, suspicion flickering in his mind.
“Yes, sir,” the assistant nodded seriously, then turned and walked out.
Oliver leaned back in his chair, his eyes as cold and sharp as a winter storm. If someone really is pulling the strings behind Carter, who are they? Are they just helping him out, or is the Rowle Group their real target?’ he wondered.
But for now, it was all just guesswork. He’d have to keep his eyes open and wait for the proof to show itself…
After leaving Oliver’s office, Ophelia headed back to her own.
“Ms. Rowle,” Anna said respectfully as she walked in. “The statement is ready. Would you like to take a look?”
“No need, just send it out,” Ophelia said with a wave of her hand. It was just an official announcement about ending Bianca’ s contract, with some PR-friendly reasons tacked on.
After all, the real story was never going to see the light of day.
Still, they had to make it public that Bianca was no longer with the Rowle Group. From now on, they’d be on their own paths. Honestly, her career in the industry was pretty much over.
Once everything was settled, dusk was already falling.
Ophelia was just about to head out when her phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the caller ID, a smile tugging at her lips as she picked up. “George, what’s up?”
“Nothing much, just passing by and thought I’d take you out for dinner,” George said, his voice warm and straightforward.
