Jason patted his shoulder again and gave him a slight push in Stella's direction. "Go get 'em, Vernon. I believe in you."
After Vernon walked away, Jason went over to the other racers to gather intel on Stella.
He thought the woman was a bit strange. Usually, when people finished a race, they immediately took off their helmets to breathe. Why was she still wearing that heavy thing?
Jason stepped into the crowd, pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and handed one to several guys around him. He stuck one between his own lips.
Taking out his lighter, he lit his own and then offered the flame to the others.
Exhaling a perfect smoke ring, he jutted his chin toward Stella and said casually, "That girl is insane on a bike."
He noticed Vernon had already initiated a conversation with her.
Having accepted Jason's cigarettes, the guys next to him were more than willing to chat.
"Man, you don't even know her? That's the infamous Ghost."
Jason asked curiously, "Ghost? Just this one girl? Are you messing with me, man?"
"No joke. Whenever she's at a race, absolutely no one can touch her."
"So, do you guys know her real name? Where does she come from?"
"Nobody knows her name or her background. Whenever people asked, she just said her name was Ghost. Over time, that's what everyone started calling her."
"I see. Do you guys have her contact info?"
One of the guys clapped Jason on the shoulder. "Buddy, trying to pick her up? Take my advice and save your breath. It's useless."
"Why?"
