She frantically tried to explain, "It wasn't me, it was this crazy woman! Una, she set me up! Make her pay for it!"

Una was beside herself with rage. She spun around, raising a hand to strike Stella.

Naturally, Stella wasn't going to just stand there and take a hit. With a subtle flick of her fingertips, Una's knees inexplicably buckled the moment her hand went up, and she dropped to her knees right in front of Stella.

Stella feigned shock. "Why on earth are you kneeling, Ms. Lowell? Are you trying to apologize? There's really no need to be so dramatic—a verbal apology is perfectly fine."

The surrounding crowd erupted into snickers. Una was thoroughly humiliated.

Rhoda rushed to help her up. "Una, why are you kneeling for someone like her? Get up!"

Una was losing her mind with anger. Why would she ever kneel to someone like Stella?!

She had fully intended to slap her, but for some reason, her knees had simply given out.

Scrambling to her feet, she raised her hand again, determined to hit the woman and vent her fury.

Stella kindly warned her, "Don't say I didn't warn you, but trying to hit me brings terrible luck."

It was incredibly annoying, which was exactly why she hated attending these kinds of parties.

Someone always had to pick a fight, which inevitably led to thrown drinks, getting drugged to ruin someone's reputation, or being pushed into a pool to be made a fool of. It was always the same tired tricks, straight out of a cheap soap opera.

The frustrating part was that she hadn't even gone out of her way to offend anyone; it was always these blind idiots getting in her face first.

If Sylvie hadn't practically begged her to come, she wouldn't have bothered showing up at all.
