"Stella, Weber changed the venue to the steep trails at the end of the Grand Ridge Road intersection. Do you want to go scout the track?"
Hearing this, Stella's eyebrow arched slightly.
The trails at the end of Grand Ridge Road?
*Oh, this is going to be fun.*
"No need. Relax, I'm going to crush Weber for you. I'm heading out—see you tomorrow."
With that, Stella stood up and walked out of the bar without a second's hesitation.
"Stella... wait!"
He wasn't even finished talking! Why was she running off so fast?
She hadn't even told him what kind of bike she needed or if she had any specific gear requirements. How was he supposed to get her set up for tomorrow?
Left with no other option since she was already gone, he quickly pulled out his phone.
Stella had barely stepped out the front doors of the bar when her phone buzzed with Jason's text.
She glanced at it and typed a quick reply.
[Don't worry about getting me a bike. Just show up to watch the race tomorrow. I'll handle the rest.]
After a brief pause, Stella sent a follow-up text.
[I'll have someone prep my bike. You just cover the cost. Transfer whatever amount you think is fair.]
For a specialized dirt bike, she could just hit up Carter Coleman.
Carter knew her specs and riding style perfectly. He'd have an absolute monster of a bike ready for her.
Reading her texts, Jason didn't hesitate. He immediately wired her one million.
Weber Harper, a classic playboy standing around five-foot-nine with thick brows and a square jaw, had pulled out all the stops today.
He had transformed the rugged summit into a disgustingly flashy spectacle. There was a massive inflatable archway at the top, a barrier of tires lining the treacherous ascent, and tacky arrays of flowers and brightly colored flags fluttering everywhere. It looked incredibly cheap.
Wearing a loud floral shirt, a cowboy hat, and dark sunglasses, Weber was lounging like a king at the base of the hill while a lackey obediently held a portable fan to his face.
As soon as Jason Blackwood arrived, Weber stood up and swaggered over. "Well, well. I was starting to think the great Jason Blackwood was too scared to show his face.
I hope you've got some magic up your sleeve today, otherwise that North Borough land is officially mine. I'm practically vibrating with excitement to see you try and beat me, man. Hahaha!"
Convinced he had a guaranteed win, Weber's arrogance hit astronomical levels when he saw Jason show up completely alone, without even a bike in tow.
Jason swatted away the hand Weber tried to place on his shoulder and sneered, "Keep dreaming. This isn't over until someone crosses the finish line."
"Haha, keep talking tough! I heard your big brother shipped you off on a business trip and you only got back yesterday. Bet you didn't expect me to flip the script, did you? Yeah, I did it specifically to screw you over. What are you gonna do about it? Bite me!"
