Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 163

Glancing at the tiny racer Jason had brought, Weber scoffed. He had no idea where Jason had scraped up this sub, but there was no way they were making it to the top.

He shot Jason a smug look, eager to rub his impending victory in his face.

Unfortunately, Jason was completely ignoring him. His entire focus was glued to Stella.

He hadn't expected Weber's guy to actually succeed.

Would Stella be able to pull it off too?

Jason was practically vibrating with anxiety, not daring to blink as he stared at her, silently praying she would make it to the top.

Julius was equally tense.

He wasn't worried about whether Stella would win the challenge; he was terrified she would fall. That incline was dangerously steep.

In stark contrast to the brothers, Carter Coleman was completely relaxed. He knew exactly what Stella was capable of.

Just like Carter, Stella felt zero pressure. The two of them had ridden this exact hill countless times; she knew every inch of it.

That was why she had flat-out refused when Jason offered to show her the track yesterday.

She got into position. As her bike roared to life, she charged toward the first two small inclines. She didn't rush, pacing herself until she hit the second slope before finally dropping the hammer.

Opening the throttle wide, she used the built-up momentum to attack the massive third hill.

Her movements were sharp and flawless, weaving past protruding rocks as she powered her way up.

As long as she didn't strike a rock, she wouldn't fall.

She knew this track like the back of her hand, thanks to all those practice runs with Carter.

She remembered the exact placement of every jagged stone. But just as she neared the crest, her tire slammed into a sharp, protruding rock.

There had never been a rock there before! Where did this one come from?
