Stella smiled. "You're mostly healed, but not completely. We'll need one final session to stabilize your condition. I'll come back in two days."
"Thank you so much, Ms. Todd. If you don't mind my asking, how exactly do you know Dr. Coleman?"
"He gave me a few pointers once."
Orville nodded. "I see. By curing this ailment, you've become a great benefactor to our family.
If you don't mind, you can just call me Grandpa Orville from now on. If you ever need anything, the Shipley family is at your disposal.
This is my eldest grandson, Steward. Perhaps you young people would have more to talk about. Why don't you two exchange numbers?"
Stella wanted to bolt. Was Orville trying to play matchmaker with his grandson?
Steward eagerly pulled out his phone, his eyes lighting up. "Ms. Todd, since my grandfather suggested it, why don't we exchange numbers?"
Stella was internally cursing Steward. Was there something wrong with his head? She was dressed like a total disaster, yet his eyes were sparkling. Was he actually interested in her?
If he had eye problems, he needed a doctor, not her phone number. She had already given him her contact info back at the coffee shop across from Shirley & Co. Jewelers.
If she pulled out her phone and added him now, he would immediately know who she was.
She had deliberately dressed like a country bumpkin precisely to hide her identity from him, yet here Orville was, meddling in things!
"We can exchange numbers later. Grandpa Orville, please rest well. I have errands to run, so I'll be going now. I'll be back in two days for the final session."
Orville handed her a bank card. "Little Star, this is your consultation fee. The PIN is six sixes. Buy whatever you need, and don't mistreat yourself."
He figured she must be struggling financially living out in the countryside, otherwise why would a young girl dress so shabbily?
Stella raised an eyebrow. Little Star?
Orville quickly said, "Alright, alright. Steward, go see Little Star out."
"Yes, Grandpa." Steward stood up to escort Stella out.
Once they were gone, Agnes voiced her disapproval.
"Old man, what was the meaning of that? Giving her money is one thing, but making Steward ask for her number and escort her out? Don't tell me you're trying to set her up with him?"
"She's right, Dad. This Ms. Todd is completely out of our league socially. Please don't go playing matchmaker!"
Helen felt the same way. How could a country bumpkin possibly be worthy of her son?
"That's incredibly short-sighted of you both. You're looking down on her, aren't you? Anyone with such extraordinary medical skills is definitely not ordinary. Her dressing like this is probably a deliberate choice to avoid attention. I know a capable person when I see one."
Agnes looked confused. "If she has such great skills, why hide them? With our family's recommendation, she could get endless business."
