After dinner at home, Rhoda Ford's skin began to itch uncontrollably. The exact same symptoms she had experienced after leaving Shirley & Co. Jewelers with Una Lowell had returned.

Having gone through this torment twice now, she was absolutely certain Stella Hawthorne was behind it, but she didn't have a shred of proof.

She just couldn't wrap her head around it. How on earth did Stella manage to cover her in this maddening, itchy red rash?

That country bumpkin clearly hadn't done anything to her!

But this was the second time. Both instances of breaking out in hives happened immediately after coming into contact with her. Given the bad blood between them, she would have to be an idiot to believe Stella wasn't responsible.

However, she had learned her lesson. Instead of complaining to her father, she quietly drove herself to urgent care to get a prescription and an IV drip.

The last time she mentioned it to her father, he had completely ignored her, so there was no point in bringing it up again.

Yvonne Jeter was experiencing the exact same agony, but lacking Rhoda's prior experience, she dragged it out until late at night before finally rushing to the emergency room.

She didn't get back home until well past midnight.

Catherine scolded her, "You need to be more careful from now on. You're a grown woman. Stop eating and touching random things when you're out. You've exhausted both of us tonight."

"Mom, you think I wanted this? I have no idea what happened. I just went shopping and came back like this."

"You definitely ate something bad or touched something you shouldn't have."

Exhausted and miserable, Yvonne didn't have the energy to argue with her mother. She simply trudged back to her room.

Once again, she was convinced that crossing paths with that country bumpkin only brought her bad luck.

Julius Blackwood arrived home from work, casually tossed an invitation onto the living room coffee table, and called out a greeting to Stella, who was cooking in the kitchen, before heading to the bathroom to shower.
