"Thank you, honey. You eat too."
They chatted about Stella's visit to the Hawthorne house as they ate.
"Did you find anything out?" Julius asked, placing a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs on her plate.
"It's definitely that perfume. Chloe confessed she bought it from an older student named Zane three months ago."
Julius paused, setting down his silverware. "That matches up. According to the intel from higher-ups, that's exactly when the perfume first surfaced in the capital. I didn't expect it to be circulating on a university campus. It seems Gideon Kaye definitely has someone working behind the scenes for him. He only just returned to the country a few days ago."
"I'm planning to go to the university on Monday to meet this Zane Morton. I want to test the waters and see if I can get any more useful information out of him."
Stella explained her plan between bites, not forgetting to urge Julius, "Hurry up and eat!"
Julius casually picked up a piece of meat. "Are you sure Chloe was telling the truth?"
"She didn't look like she was lying. And if she is, it's fine. I'll just track her down at school. I doubt she wants to see my face there."
Julius let out an amused chuckle. "What exactly did you do to her?"
"Nothing much. I just reasoned with her, maybe gave her a tiny taste of hardship along the way, and she spilled everything."
Julius highly doubted she had done "nothing much," but it was clear she didn't intend to elaborate.
Chloe had likely suffered at her hands; otherwise, she wouldn't have coughed up the answers so quickly.
"I'll go with you to her university on Monday." He wasn't entirely comfortable with her going alone.
It wasn't a matter of safety, but rather he was worried she'd get harassed by some college creeps. She had such a pure, striking look, making her an easy target for guys trying to hit on her.
Since she was going to meet a male student, he'd feel much better tagging along.
