Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 256

"Sounds good. I'll go with you."

"My poor wife went through such a fright today. Come here, let me properly comfort you."

"...?"

Before she could protest, Stella was swept off her feet and carried straight to the bed for some 'comfort'.

And he certainly delivered. He comforted every single inch of her.

...

The next morning, the patriarch of the Harper family was in a towering rage.

He had summoned the entire family into the main hall.

"How could this happen?! Who the hell is targeting us behind the scenes? Which one of you offended someone?!"

The Harper descendants stood in dead silence, heads bowed like frightened quail. The old man's wrath was nothing short of terrifying.

Augustus Harper glared at the sea of lowered heads before his furious gaze locked onto Weber. "Was it you? Did you mess with a woman you had no business touching, and now her people are out for our blood?"

Of all the heirs, Weber was the most utterly useless. All he did was drink, party, and cause trouble. He hadn't accomplished a single respectable thing in his life.

The only remotely useful thing he had ever done was reporting back from that perfume salon last week.

Thanks to that, they had finalized a partnership with Mr. Kaye. The contracts had been signed just this morning.

All they had to do now was mass-produce the product and rake in the profits.

Weber finally looked up, his voice barely a squeak. "Grandpa, I swear I didn't."

The old man was practically ancient, yet he stubbornly clung to his position as patriarch instead of passing it down to Weber's father. All he did was single him out and scream at him. Weber was so sick of it.

"You better pray you didn't!" Augustus bellowed. "If I find out our stock plummeted because of your stupidity, I'm cutting your allowance in half!"

This ungrateful brat was a walking disaster!

Surely Julius wasn't that small-minded.

He had only talked a big game! He literally hadn't done anything!

Weber stood there, mentally spiraling, terrified that Julius was the architect behind the market crash.

If it really was him, and his grandfather found out, his life was over.

Furious and desperate for answers, Augustus immediately ordered a full investigation.

Julius made zero effort to hide his tracks. He wanted the Harper family to know exactly who was pulling the trigger. He wanted Weber to understand that his woman was completely off-limits to scum like him.

So, it didn't take long for Augustus to discover the truth. The monumental financial disaster they were facing was a direct result of Weber hitting on Julius's woman.

Augustus stormed over and slapped Weber hard across the face—twice. "You worthless piece of trash! Why the hell are you provoking Julius Blackwood's woman?! Do you have any idea who he is? Did you really think you could touch someone belonging to him?!"

Having backhanded his grandson, he then turned his fury on Weber's parents. "And you two! Completely useless! Look at the disaster you've raised! He's in his twenties, has achieved absolutely nothing, and does nothing but drag our name through the mud. At this rate, he's going to burn this entire family to the ground!"
