Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 265

"I don't like juice." His tone was flat, and whatever trace of politeness had been on his face completely vanished.

Yvonne internally cursed her carelessness. She had been worried he might notice something off if she gave him water, so she intentionally chose juice to mask it.

She had completely forgotten that Julius hated juice.

Catherine smoothed things over with a smile. "If Julius doesn't like juice, let's not force him. Come on, eat up. Yvonne put a lot of effort into tonight's dinner.

She made these Steamed Yam Meatballs entirely from scratch. She remembered you liked them and insisted on doing it herself. Her hands even broke out in an allergic reaction from peeling the yams."

Catherine's intention was obvious: she wanted Julius to know that Yvonne had personally cooked for him and suffered an allergic reaction, hoping he would be touched by her dedication.

Instead, Julius casually replied, "What a coincidence. My wife also loves making this dish. However, she's very smart.

She always wears disposable gloves when handling yams, so she never has to deal with an allergic reaction."

Catherine went completely silent.

Since when did Julius Blackwood talk to people with such zero regard for their dignity?

He had never been this blunt before.

Hearing this, Yvonne was so furious she almost slammed her silverware onto the table.

Julius was intentionally praising his wife right in front of her, deliberately slapping her in the face and calling her stupid for not knowing how to handle something so basic.

It was infuriating!

Catherine, ever the smooth talker, didn't let the awkwardness show. Instead, she asked, "Julius, when did you get married so quietly? Which prominent family is the lucky bride from?"

Julius's marriage had never been publicly announced. If Yvonne hadn't overheard Nadine talking about it at the Blackwood Manor, they wouldn't have even known.

She had originally wanted to say that his wife wasn't good enough for him, but after a second thought, she swallowed the words.

Byron quickly changed the subject, steering the conversation toward the stock market.

Julius actually hadn't eaten much. It wasn't that the food was bad—on the contrary, the spread was lavish, and it was clear the Jeters had put a lot of effort into it.

He just didn't want to eat because the setting, the atmosphere, and the people were entirely unappealing to him.

He would much rather be at home, eating a simple home-cooked meal with his wife.

Because of this, dinner didn't last long before he set down his silverware.

"Please, take your time. I'm full."

Byron, who felt like he was only half-full, immediately put down his fork as well. "Why did you stop so soon? Is the food not to your liking?"
