The shove nearly sent Zoe sprawling. She stumbled back several steps before catching her balance. Clutched her aching wrist, she pleaded, "Julius, I swear I came to apologize! I didn't mean to hit her, I promise! You have to believe me!"
Jason leapt up, absolutely furious. "My mother only gave birth to Julius and me. She definitely didn't produce a shameless, lying psycho like you!
"Stop calling him by his first name so intimately. Do you think everyone here is blind?
"The entire table saw you use an apology as an excuse to assault Stella, and you still have the nerve to claim you were sincere? You're an absolute disgrace to the Calvert family!"
He had had it up to here with this brazen woman. It was bad enough she constantly stalked his brother, but trying to hit his sister-in-law in public? Absolutely unforgivable.
If he were a woman, he would have slapped the taste out of her mouth by now!
Damn it!
As Julius wrapped a protective arm around Stella, he silently gave Jason a massive thumbs-up.
His brother had perfectly delivered every single word he had wanted to say.
He had to admit, in certain situations, having Jason around was incredibly useful.
Stella also silently awarded Jason top marks.
Sometimes, Jason was the perfect mouthpiece for Julius. While Julius preferred to keep things brief and icy, Jason possessed the fiery vocabulary needed to verbally eviscerate someone.
Zoe frantically tried to defend herself, her tone turning accusatory. "I swear I wasn't trying to hit her! Julius, why won't you believe me?!"
She genuinely had come to apologize—and subtly demand Stella's contact info.
She had no idea what went wrong. When they clinked glasses, Stella had casually brushed against her wrist. A sudden, sharp numbness shot up her arm, and before she knew it, her hand had snapped up completely out of her control.
She truly hadn't intended to strike her!
But everyone seated at the table had watched it unfold in broad daylight. They clearly saw Zoe swing at Julius's wife, and her refusal to admit it made them all shake their heads in disgust.
Stella couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle. She glanced at the guy who made the comment. If she recalled correctly from the introductions, he was Vincent's son—Julius's cousin.
Technically speaking, by marriage, Zoe was his younger cousin as well.
It was evident he had zero tolerance for her dramatic antics.
Zoe and Julius, however, were not actually related. Zoe was strictly on Suzanne's side of the family.
Stella barely had to say a word; the crowd was doing all the fighting for her.
All she had to do was stand there looking frail and innocent.
Did Zoe really think she could get the upper hand? There was absolutely no chance in hell.
The commotion naturally drew the attention of the elders at the main table.
