Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 300

His wife was an absolute sucker for this kind of eye candy.

His plan was foolproof: let her gorge on the photos until she was thoroughly distracted, and then offer himself up as the main course. It would definitely work!

Hearing the bathroom door click open, he hastily shoved the tablet under a pillow, grabbed his own pajamas, and dashed in to wash up.

After taking the fastest shower of his life, he quickly dried his own hair. He then removed Stella's hair-drying towel and meticulously blow-dried her hair for her.

Once her hair was completely dry, he put the dryer away and slipped into bed beside her.

He pulled the tablet out from under the pillow. "Stella, I have something amazing to show you. Want to see?"

Stella was busy scrolling on her phone and completely ignored him.

Truthfully, she wasn't mad at him at all. Tonight's fiasco had nothing to do with him; Zoe was solely to blame.

She was just playing hard to get, curious to see what ridiculous tactics Julius would deploy to cheer her up.

Julius glanced at her and sighed dramatically. "You really don't want to see? Fine, but you'll regret it. I guess I'll just enjoy it by myself."

"Oh, this one is nice. Broad chest, tight waist, great proportions."

"This one is great too. Luminous skin, handsome face, endless legs."

"Oh, this one is even better. Blonde hair, blue eyes..."

Before he could finish, the tablet was snatched right out of his hands.

Stella had assumed he was looking at photos of hot women, so she angrily grabbed the screen. But the moment she looked, she couldn't tear her eyes away.

"Whoa, this guy is gorgeous! So athletic, amazing pecs—he looks incredibly strong."

"This one's not bad either. Perfect tan, and the sweat dripping down those abs? Absolutely lethal."

"Wow, this one is stunning. I really want to touch..."

She had called her parents, her brother Naylor, and her sister-in-law Eliza last night to give them a heads-up, so they were all waiting for her when she arrived.

Mr. Calvert cut straight to the chase. "Suzanne, what exactly happened that required you to come back so urgently?"

She had been completely vague on the phone, simply demanding that he ensure his son and daughter-in-law cleared their schedules for the morning.

"Yes, Suzanne, you even had Dad keep us home. I've been worried all morning," Naylor said. "Just tell me what's wrong. If I can help, I absolutely will."

He was a university professor and had a morning lecture, but when his father relayed the urgency of his sister's visit, he had immediately swapped shifts with a colleague.

Suzanne had married into an incredibly powerful family. The Calverts were esteemed academics, but they rarely rubbed elbows with the elite circles the Vaughns operated in. If the Vaughns wanted to keep a secret, the outside world would never hear a whisper of it.

Mrs. Calvert and Eliza remained silent, but their eyes were fixed anxiously on Suzanne.

Facing her immediate family, Suzanne didn't bother sugarcoating anything. She laid out every single mortifying detail of Zoe's actions at Wilfred's birthday banquet, hiding absolutely nothing.
