Returning to the Blackwood Manor.
Nadine was already waiting for them. The moment she heard from the butler that they had visited City Hall that morning, she immediately discharged herself from the hospital.
It was her own family's hospital anyway; she could do whatever she pleased.
"You're finally back," she said, her voice buzzing with excitement. "Quick, let me see your marriage license."
She wouldn't be at ease until she saw the official papers, paranoid that the two were trying to trick her.
Julius smiled when he saw her. "Grandma, you're back. Are you feeling better? Did the doctor clear you for discharge?"
Stella secretly rolled her eyes. See? She knew the matriarch had been faking it. She looked energetic enough to wrestle a bear right now, completely devoid of yesterday's frailty.
"Of course he did, why wouldn't he?" Nadine replied anxiously. "I was just worried you two might try to pull a fast one on an old woman, so I hurried back. Now, show me the license."
Julius pulled out the two documents and handed them over. "Look, here are the papers."
Nadine took them and flipped them open, confirming that the photos matched their faces.
As for the text, her eyesight wasn't the best, so she didn't squint to check whether the name read Chloe or Stella.
She snapped the booklets shut, a warm, affectionate smile spreading across her face. "Wonderful, wonderful. I'll hold on to these for you so you don't lose them. Julius, now that you've married Chloe, your legs will surely heal in no time. You must treat her well. No bullying her, understand?"
"I know, Grandma."
Stella was speechless. Was hoarding marriage licenses some sort of Blackwood family tradition?
Why was everyone so eager to confiscate their legal documents?
And they all used the exact same excuse: So you don't lose them!
So you don't lose them??
Yeah, right!
