By the time the couple woke up, it was already 5:00 PM.
"Julius, we've been away for a few days. Why don't we head back to the manor to see your grandmother? We can keep her company for dinner and ask how she wants to celebrate the upcoming Autumn Gala," Stella suggested.
"Sounds good. If we head back now, knowing Grandma's routine, she's probably getting ready for dinner. I'll give her a call to ask her to wait for us, and I'll have the kitchen whip up some of your favorites."
After saying that, Julius immediately dialed the older woman's number.
Hearing that her eldest grandson and his wife were coming back to join her for dinner, Nadine was naturally thrilled.
She chuckled happily and said, "Of course, of course, I'll wait for you two. I'll have Lisa let the kitchen know to make all your favorite dishes. Don't rush, take your time. I'll be right here waiting."
What Stella didn't know was that Julius had secretly texted Jason, telling him to come back for dinner to cooperate with his plan.
Forty minutes later, the two arrived at the Blackwood Manor.
Even before they stepped into the living room, they could hear Nadine's joyous laughter.
Walking in, they found Jason completely cracking his grandmother up.
Seeing her grandson and his wife at the door, Nadine beamed. "You're back! Jason just got here not too long ago either. Come on in, it's almost time to eat."
Stella took a seat next to the older woman. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"Not at all. I'm just happy you're back. Didn't you go abroad to watch a competition? Why not stay a couple more days to enjoy yourselves?"
"We missed you, so we wanted to come back sooner. But we rushed back without having the chance to bring you any souvenirs from abroad. I hope you aren't upset with us."
"Whatever you prefer. If you want it to be lively, we'll make it lively."
Stella picked up a tender, slow-cooked piece of meat and placed it in Nadine's bowl. As long as the older woman was happy, anything was fine.
"Good, then let's make it a big event. You can invite all your good friends over to celebrate with us. I'll have Larry handle the arrangements and make sure it's absolutely spectacular."
Nadine happily ate the food Stella had served her.
Julius chimed in, "Grandma, I'll hire someone to help Larry plan the gala activities. You just sit back and watch. If anything needs to be done, have the staff do it. You can't exhaust yourself by doing everything hands-on, understood?"
"Don't worry, I know. I won't tire myself out. I still need to take good care of my health so I can help raise my great-grandchildren for you two."
"Exactly! Julius, when are you and Stella going to give Gran a great-grandchild so I can finally be an uncle?" Jason added, smoothly riding the coattails of his grandmother's comment.
