She wasn't against it, though. As long as he was happy.
She didn't know when it happened, but he had already become an indispensable part of her life.
She loved eating with him, sleeping next to him, and sharing the little moments of her day with him.
When he went on business trips, she missed him.
When he bought her gifts, it made her day.
Maybe spending the rest of her life with him was a pretty good choice.
[Fine, fine. Keep your secrets. I'll definitely be there tonight.]
Nadine had asked her, Jason had asked her, and now Stella was asking her. She had no choice but to go.
Besides, she didn't have any special plans for tonight anyway. She might as well go see what all the fuss was about, and it would be a good chance to visit Nadine, whom she hadn't seen in ages.
At the Jeter residence.
"Mom, Dad, did you hear? The Blackwoods invited all the young men and women from prominent families to their Autumn Gala. Why weren't we invited?"
Byron Jeter frowned. "Are you sure? When your mother and I went over to drop off holiday gifts a few days ago, Nadine never mentioned a word of it."
He had tried to use the gift-giving as an excuse to thaw the icy relationship between the two families.
The gifts were delivered, and he did get to see Nadine, but his ultimate goal had completely failed.
After exchanging just a few words, the old woman suddenly claimed her blood pressure was acting up, took some medication, and excused herself to rest.
Mrs. Jeter took her daughter's side. "Byron, I think Yvonne is right. If we can use this event to mend fences, it would be great. Haven't you been dying to get Julius to resume our business partnership?"
Byron replied in annoyance, "The only reason our relationship is in ruins is because of the mess she made!"
Yvonne clung to Byron's arm, whining, "Dad, I know I messed up, which is exactly why I'm trying so hard to fix things with Julius!
Once he forgives me, our families can go back to how we were, and our company can keep working with Blackwood Group. Wouldn't that be perfect?"
Seeing that she was finally thinking about the family's interests, Byron nodded. "I'm glad you're finally using your head. Just remember, when you go tonight, apologize to Julius properly. Do not make things worse between our families, or I won't let you off the hook."
Losing the Blackwood Group partnership wouldn't bankrupt the Jeter family, but the financial hit was massive.
Mending the relationship was the best-case scenario, and it was exactly what he wanted.
